Highlights​

Gradual rollout​

A gradual rollout distributes a release update over a period of time, rather than all at once. This means that users receive the updates at different times, and it might not be immediately available to all users. To see the status of this feature, go to Windows release health dashboard.
  • [Recall (preview) 1] New! You work across so many apps, sites, and documents it can be hard to remember where you saw something you want to get back to. Recall (preview) saves you time by offering an entirely new way to search for things you’ve seen or done on your PC securely. With the AI capabilities of Copilot+ PCs, it’s now possible to quickly find and get back to any app, website, image, or document just by describing its content. To use Recall, you will need to opt-in to save snapshots, which are images of your activity, and enroll in Windows Hello to confirm your presence so only you can access your snapshots. You are always in control of what snapshots are saved and can pause saving snapshots at any time. As you use your Copilot+ PC throughout the day working on documents or presentations, taking video calls, and context switching across activities, Recall will take regular snapshots and help you find things faster and easier. When you need to find or get back to something you’ve done previously, open Recall and authenticate with Windows Hello. When you’ve found what you were looking for, you can reopen the application, website, or document, or use Click to Do to act on any image or text in the snapshot you found. Improvements​

This non-security update includes quality improvements. The following summary outlines key issues addressed by the KB after you install it. Also, included are available new features. The bold text within the brackets indicates the item or area of the change.

Normal rollout​

  • [Blue screen error] Fixed: This update resolves an issue observed after installing the April 2025 Windows security update and restarting the device. Affected devices encountered a blue screen exception with error code 0x18B indicating a SECURE_KERNEL_ERROR.
  • [Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP Client)] Fixed: This update addresses an issue affecting internet connectivity on devices after resuming from sleep mode. Users might experience intermittent internet connections.
  • [File Systems] Fixed: This update addresses an issue when the operating system stops unexpectedly, and an error message appears on a blue screen during normal usage with a user profile redirected to a network VHD(X).
  • [Imaging] Fixed: This update addresses an issue where some content pages with JPEG images were not displaying.
  • [Windows Hello] Fixed: This update addresses an edge case issue where Windows Hello doesn’t work on devices with specific security features enabled, preventing users from logging in with facial recognition or PIN. This issue was observed after performing a Push button reset or Reset this PC from Settings > System > Recovery and selecting Keep my Files and Local install.
  • [Windows Setup] Fixed: If you install Windows 11, version 24H2 with Windows Setup and run System Preparation (Sysprep) afterwards, the boot file configuration is not properly updated, resulting in push-button reset options not working.
  • [Windows Update] The Windows Update settings page and the Start menu power button will now show an estimated time for how long your PC will be offline to install updates from Windows Update.
If you installed earlier updates, your device downloads and installs only the new updates contained in this package.

Windows 11 servicing stack update (KB5055659) - 26100.3910​

This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates. Known issues in this update​

1 Roblox

Applies to: All users

Symptom
We’re aware of an issue where players on Arm devices are unable to download and play Roblox from the Microsoft Store on Windows.

Workaround
Roblox is working on a resolution to address this issue. Please refer to the Roblox support site for updates. Until the resolution is available, players on Arm devices can play Roblox by downloading the title directly from www.Roblox.com.

2 Citrix

Applies to: All users

Symptom
Devices that have certain Citrix components installed might be unable to complete installation of the January 2025 Windows security update. This issue was observed on devices with Citrix Session Recording Agent (SRA) version 2411. The 2411 version of this application was released in December 2024.

Affected devices might initially download and apply the January 2025 Windows security update correctly, such as via the Windows Update page in Settings. However, when restarting the device to complete the update installation, an error message with text similar to “Something didn’t go as planned. No need to worry – undoing changes” appears. The device will then revert to the Windows updates previously present on the device.

This issue likely affects a limited number of organizations as version 2411 of the SRA application is a new version. Home users are not expected to be affected by this issue.

Workaround
Citrix has documented this issue, including a workaround, which can be performed prior to installing the January 2025 Windows security update. For details, see Citrix’s documentation.

Microsoft is working with Citrix to address this issue and will update this documentation once a resolution is available.

Method 1: Install all MSU files together

If you want to remove the LCU

To remove the LCU after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You can find the package name by using this command: DISM /online /get-packages.

Running Windows Update Standalone Installer (wusa.exe) with the /uninstall switch on the combined package will not work because the combined package contains the SSU. You cannot remove the SSU from the system after installation.

Not necessarily. I had a VM onto which I installed the update directly. By that, I mean that I downloaded the update from the Update Catalog and installed it. It took about 2 hours (!) to install.

Fortunately, I had taken a snapshot just before applying the update, so I reverted back to it and then allowed Windows update to install the update. I don't recall the exact amount of time, but it took only a fraction of the time, including the download of the update. I think it was somewhere around 40 min if I recall correctly.

The MVS ISO releases are a nobrainer; Mount it, and just run setup and it automatically assumes InPlace Install. To be quicker you can turn search for updates during the install off because that would not make any sense because there is no higher release then 26100.3915! It just bam installs 3915 without any updates. And if you find 2 unreclaimable packages again? No worry's. Just

DISM /Online /Remove-Package /Packagename:Package_for_RollupFix~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~26100.1742.1.10
I made a monkey-proof script for it which checks really everything first. Ask you If you want to delete it? If so it checks afterwards everything and makes everything valid again with the last test to show you the number of 2 has gone to 0. No more thinking. The script does it all for you! Any error will be intercepted. Also a nobrainer. Published it here in an other thread if someone is interested.

Those MVS releases are available to anyone who has a MDSN subscription. But luckily someone is so kind enough to publish them on Usenet also.
I would like to see that Microsoft publish them also after an update has released. Now? You can only download the official 26100.1742 ISO and by the mediacreationtool the official 26100.2033 ISO that's it! And yes those MVS releases are also official but not for the general public. (MS want money so you must pay before you are able to be a part of the MDSN program) Many systemadministrators are always a member of that program because the company has a big licence at MS, and it's vital for them if they are planning company wide upgrades of Windows systems. They work together with a software team to roll out updates for the company software en yes that also includes Windows updates. (after a thorough testing fase of course.)

Interested in MVS ISO's? Just use Usenet. Several tools are available though distinct channels where Windows Applications can be found.

Well. I use VMWare machines. No trouble with the performance there. Can give it resources as a an other new machine with resource to spare. Never saw an update that took hours to install. Or 40 minutes. Only in one occasion; there was something wrong with the windows I tried it on. A lot of repairing and fixing takes also time. 20 min tops.

And the most significant thing: Having a very fast machine!

I have a state of the art machine (not even high end) a PCIe 5.0 Motherboard. a 12 Gen i7 CPU with 20 cores overclocked at 5400Mhz (not all the time! It revs up and down according to the load) All very fast NVMe only disks, 32GB DDR6 very fast memory. (XMP profile enabled. Also overclocked.) And 1Gb fiberglas Internet connection with a lightning speed fast provider. It's also a no-noise system 4 fans are big enough to cool everything down using air and revs up hardly noticeable if needed. (I only notice that my PC is running if I take a look at the light) This all makes a difference! I don't want to boast but point out a real fact. Other people with slower machines; Yes they don't reach the times I am reaching. Fast hardware makes a big difference. I invested in it with a reason. (Below the $1100 boundary) And I don't even have that a fast machine. Others are much faster (but also expensive; i9's or with dual Xeon CPU's.... A motherboard that costs more than $700.) At building time it's time too choose the right hardware. I know my hardware stuff to know what to buy. Other people don't care and buy a mediocre system right from the shelf or a laptop. And that OK also. Not everybody is a technerd like me. And using a RTX3060Ti during heavy gaming time? No noise what so ever. So yes. My updates etc. are much quicker in comparison. So it's comparing pears and apples; not equal. Don't do that!

I helped someone with a slow update. Tried to figure out what was going on... After 3 days(!!!) it was finished... With an error..... After analyzing (forgot to ask him that "What did you use as command") Yes. I thought the "normal" proces... Wrong! Assume nothing! I should have asked..... My bad.

He used a completely wrong command if I had seen it at the start... That's gonna fail!!! Het was trying to update his system with the totally wrong version. A though lesson for him. He went so far beyond what I thought normal. Crazy! After 1 day I already gave him the advice to stop everything and save everything as much as he could (sensitive data) an do a fresh install. Much quicker. "No! Just one more day......." (Turns out 3 days...) In the end he followed my advice and was back again on the same day.

Fast machine didn't help. Tried it on VERY fast machine and it took an hour and a half. On the other hand, I tried it on a machine with a lowly Intel N150 and it completed in under 30 minutes. So the results are all over the place.

    The five 8TB drives and three 512GB SSDs are part of a DrivePool using StableBit DrivePool software. The three SSDs are devoted purely to caching for the 8TB drives. All of the important data is stored in triplicate so that I can withstand simultaneous failure of 2 disks.

No situation is equal. Some Windows components are more broken then others. That has also impact on the time it would take. I too think I have a fast machine but when an update is busy. My CPU load is <5% and the disk transactions barely are higher the a few Mb/sec. Why the heck does it take so long. (Said this al my updates took no more than in exceptional cases longer than 30 min. Normally 10-20 min in case a version change is applied. Security updates and other minor update take less than a few min. The ones that will take a lot of time are those dreaded .NET updates. Ridiculous! Downloading them and installing it is so much faster.

There is also an other factor that you must take a look at; Maintenance. I use a background job that once a week runs on the background and checks and repairs Windows components. You can imagine if you don't do that before a new update; Windows has to fix these things first before it can start the actual update. I have an idea that the whole basic Windows updating system is inefficiënt to say the least. If an update comes along I want that it uses all my resources to the max so it takes less time. One thing is a real eye-sore; downloading, verifying and installing an update takes incredible amount of time as it should be. Therefor I will hold the update, download the complete update and run it. This way is so much quicker than waiting impatiently when Windows update is done. The complete load all this time is below 5%.... Even Linux updates are so much faster. A complete list; downloading fast, installing it, done, next... So if you keep your Component Store in a good health an update doesn't have to spend time to repairing it first. Beside a fast machine, good health of the Component Store do also help. Hardwired connection (UTP) does also help. (No WiFi for me. My PC is not that mobile.) There also external factors in play here at which we can't doing nothing about it. Updates are spread by a MS Farm of servers. If they a busy than it will take also take some time. It's also worth to look at the time when America is awake for instance. When I start my update and America is awake and also updating; I know the load on those servers are large. So I postpone the update to a later time. (little things help and adding up....)

You gave an example how things can differ. But are the download speeds exactly the same? You may have a fast machine but with 50Mb/sec that says nothing. Maybe the slower one has a 500Mb connection. Connection cable or WiFi. Those things also matter. Everything adds up.

The differences that I noted happen whether I download the update from the Update Catalog or allow Windows update to download it so my DL speeds have nothing to do with it. The point that I was making was simply that the amount of time that it takes to install this particular update seems to vary wildly all over the place. In fact, one good example of this is the two Asus laptops that I have. They are both 100% identical model laptops with all the exact same specs including the same amount of memory etc. Both had windows installed about two weeks ago from the same sysprep image, and both were on the same build before I performed the update. And yet, the speed at which they installed was quite different.

Yea I have a mvs subscription which allows me to download official isos.
But I prefer UUP because I have full control on it and then I can integrate my codes with uup codes to have a “really” updated iso. Mvs isos are official but sometimes they are full of old packages which you really don’t need. Also with this method I can integrate my drivers and utilities to my image.
So you haven’t tested uup to check the issue.

I made clean install of 26100.1742 and update to 3915 and I didn't see CPU Utility feature that belong to 3624.

Because MS did not activate this feature, there are many features that may be the next major feature of 25H2, but you can still enable it manually on 24H2.

I'm not sure that I follow what you are saying. Using the ISO whether obtained by UUP or directly from Microsoft would be for a clean install of Windows or an upgrade between versions (for example 23H2 to 24H2). What we were talking about was simply applying the 26100.3915 update.

As for the ISO images, I just inject the updates and drivers myself. So, I now have a 26100.3915 ISO image and installing from that works absolutely flawlessly.

I do the same but startcomponentcleanup /resetbase can not clean all old files.

I think I tracked it down. I had recently upgraded my BIOS and processor microcode and it looks like the memory didn't train property. I had tested it afterwards with on long test and it did not fail. Now I try it with a different test and it failed,

Powered off my computer, trained the memory again when it booted to BIOS, then tested again. I think it is fine now - will see.
