Insider KB5082257 Windows 11 Insider Dev build 26300.7966 (25H2) - March 11

UPDATE 3/13:

 Windows Insider Blog:

[UPDATE 3/11/26]: We are rolling out standalone Update Build 26300.7966 (KB5082257). This update does not include anything new and is designed to test our servicing pipeline for builds in the Dev Channel. A restart will be required; device build version will not change post update.

Hello Windows Insiders, today we are releasing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26300.7965 (KB5079385) to the Dev Channel.

Changes in Dev Channel builds and updates are documented in two buckets: new features, and improvements (including notable fixes) that are being gradually rolled out for Insiders who have turned on the toggle to get the latest updates as they are available (via Settings > Windows Update*) and then new features, and improvements (including notable fixes) rolling out to everyone in the Dev Channel. For more information, see the Reminders section at the bottom of this blog.

New features gradually being rolled out with toggle on*

[Administrator Protection]

Administrator protection is being re-enabled and aims to protect free floating admin rights for administrator users, allowing them to still perform all admin functions with just-in-time admin privileges. This feature is OFF by default and can be enabled via OMA-URI in Intune or via group policy.

Changes and Improvements gradually being rolled out with toggle on*

[Sharing]

Based on feedback we’re making some refinements to drag tray, using a smaller peek view to reduce accidental invocation and make it easier to dismiss when interacting near the top of the screen.

[File Explorer]

  • You can now use voice typing (Windows key plus H) when renaming files in File Explorer.

  • Removed white flash when launching new File Explorer windows or tabs when File Explorer was set to open to This PC. Also removed white flashes when resizing elements of File Explorer.
  • Improved reliability of unblocking files downloaded from the internet in order to preview them in File Explorer.

Reminders for Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel

  • Updates are based on Windows 11, version 25H2 via an enablement package (Build 26300.7965).
  • Many features are rolled out using Controlled Feature Rollout technology, starting with a subset of Insiders and ramping up over time as we monitor feedback to see how they land before pushing them out to everyone in this channel.
  • The desktop watermark shown at the lower right corner of the desktop is normal for Windows Insider pre-release builds.
  • For Windows Insiders who want to be the first to get features gradually rolled out to you, you can turn ON the toggle to get the latest updates as they are available via Settings > Windows Update*. Over time, we will increase the rollouts of features to everyone with the toggle turned on. Should you keep this toggle off, new features will gradually be rolled out to your PC over time once they are ready.
  • Features and experiences included in these builds may never get released as we try out different concepts and get feedback. Features may change over time, be removed, or replaced and never get released beyond Windows Insiders. Some of these features and experiences could show up in future Windows releases when they’re ready.
  • Some features in active development we preview with Windows Insiders may not be fully localized and localization will happen over time as features are finalized. As you see issues with localization in your language, please report those issues to us via Feedback Hub.
  • Check out Flight Hub for a complete look at what build is in which Insider channel.
Thanks,
Windows Insider Program Team

Thank you for the insider information. Sadly, I don't like Windows Defender. I use BitDefender. Microsoft Defender is still active. It still updates itself. Bitdefender is constantly ranked in the top 5. Microsoft isn't. Different organizations are somewhat biased and change the rankings, mainly based on the subsidies they receive from sales of the various products. I've never had any problems with malware, phishing, etc., using Bitdefender. I also use its VPN. It comes with Premium. It also includes PC tools to clean up files left in the temps, etc. So does Nord VPN. I have both.
I actually use Ashampoo WinOptimizer 28 to remove unnecessary files and then clean the registry—German excellence. Sometimes Windows reports errors after deleting files and uninstalling apps. So I wait until the apps and extra files are removed from the many temps, then I clean the registry. I've used all 3 to easily make a few tweaks for custom personalizations. I've heard many people say that Windows does a fine job with everything. If you're happy, I'm happy that you are. I do know that the larger the registry becomes, the slower the computer runs. If the information is incorrect, it can cause major problems. I had a power interruption, and my computer turned off. Windows said there was a problem with my C drive. I checked it using chkdkk from the command prompt. It reported many errors, including the fat bitmap being wrong.
Everyone knows, and it even states that if you run it from Windows, it would report nonexistent errors. I became paranoid. After booting into DOS and running chkdsk /f /r as someone suggested, it found no problems. I should have remained calm. Thought logically, and ran chkdsk /f. That should have been enough. It was. It went so fast and reported no errors. Win 10, backwards showed a summary after running chkdsk from DOS. That's when I reran it with the /r switch. This hard drive has no problems except that Windows incorrectly reported the location of one file after an improper shutdown. I easily corrected it. Chkdsk shows no errors inside Windows. I've said too much.
I purchased long-term subscriptions around December, when you can buy 3 to 5 years of both at a very low cost. I'm sure most people know that October through December is usually the best time to purchase discounted software, etc. I also love Mozilla Firefox and RoboForm password manager. I have a lifetime subscription to RoboForm. (Same with I.D.M.) I've never had an account hacked because someone discovered my password. You'd need an incredibly fast computer to discover 26-or-more-character combinations of unique passwords. It would take months or years. Hackers use random character password generators. They keep trying different combinations. Hackers suck! Straight from God's Holy Bible, "For the love of money is the root of all evil." Get a life, please. Criminals are evil. They're lazy. They want to obtain money as easily as possible. Some are relatively intelligent and smart. If they put their intelligence and knowledge to work to better the world, it would be a much better world. Same with I.D.M. I like Windows 10 and older the best. The simpler the better. As I'm sure you know, Apple is the best. That's for rich people, though. Sadly, hackers are now attacking Apple. It used to be totally secure. It didn't need extra protection. Please watch " Pirates of Silicon Valley" https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0168122/ if you're interested in the true history of Apple and Microsoft. It's a great movie for PC enthusiasts. These are only my opinions. I'm sure many of you are much more knowledgeable and more intelligent than I am. I only have a high school diploma. I do, however, have an I.Q. of 138. (100 is average, 150 is genius.) I joined the U.S. Army after high school. I don't have formal college training. But I've learned quite a lot on my own, so I'm fairly smart. I earned an A on the Big Bang Theory and the Theory of Evolution. I know God is 100% real, and there is a Heaven and Hell. I know where I'm going to be for eternity. I love God and everyone. May our Father, God, continue to bless and protect everyone. Thank you, Jesus, for everything. Amen.

You get what you pay for. Except for the keyboard and mouse, my equipment is all old, but all of it still works great. I've had my computers and TVs on 24 hours a day, except for power outages and for cleaning. They still work great.

Is anybody getting back this Administrator Protection feature?
No signs of it on any of my machines yet. 😵‍💫🤷‍♂️

[Administrator Protection]

Administrator protection is being re-enabled and aims to protect free floating admin rights for administrator users, allowing them to still perform all admin functions with just-in-time admin privileges. This feature is OFF by default and can be enabled via OMA-URI in Intune or via group policy.

It looks like the ability to remove unwanted quick actions from Windows 11's quick settings menu is finally returning!

Hidden in build 26300.7965 is an updated energy saver quick setting which supports this (removing it doesn't work just yet, though). Hopefully more follow suit.

The updated quick setting has also been turned into a split toggle with a currently blank subpage, energy recommendations will likely be displayed here in a later build.

When the upcoming agenda view in notification center (still not rolling out!) first showed up in builds late last year, there was no way to hide it.

Newer builds now have an option to show/hide it which can be found next to the date.

Where do you see agenda view ?

I don't have it available yet either.

It's this below like in W10.
