Win Update KB5085516 Windows 11 Out-of-band Update build 26100.8039 (24H2) and 26200.8039 (25H2) - March 21

UPDATE 3.26:

 Microsoft Support:

March 21, 2026 - KB5085516 (OS Builds 26200.8039 and 26100.8039) Out-of-band

This out-of-band update for Windows 11, version 25H2 and 24H2 (KB5085516) is cumulative. It includes updates from previous security and non-security releases, along with an additional fix. To learn more about differences between security updates, optional non-security preview updates, out-of-band (OOB) updates, and continuous innovation, see Windows monthly updates explained. For information on Windows update terminology, see the different types of Windows software updates.

To view the latest updates about this release, visit the Windows release health dashboard or the update history page for Windows 11, version 25H2 and 24H2.

Improvements

This OOB contains quality improvements from KB5079473 (released March 10, 2026). The following summary outlines key issues addressed by this update. The bold text within the brackets indicates the item or area of the change.
  • [Microsoft account sign in] Fixed: After you install the Windows update released on or after March 10, 2026, some users might experience an issue signing in to apps with a Microsoft account. Even when the device has a working Internet connection, a “no Internet” error appears during sign in and prevents access to Microsoft services and apps such as Microsoft Teams Free and OneDrive.

Note: Only sign ins using Microsoft accounts are affected. Businesses using Microsoft Entra ID for app authentication will not experience this issue.
This update is offered through Windows Update for devices running Windows 11 that have already installed KB5079473. It is also available for manual download from the Microsoft Update Catalog.

Devices with Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available turned on will receive this update automatically. If this setting is turned off, you can install the update manually by going to Settings > Windows Update and selecting Download & install.

Note: IT administrators using Microsoft Intune or Windows Autopatch should follow the guidance below for installing the OOB update via Windows Update.

Windows 11 servicing stack update (KB5083532)- 26100.8035

This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates. To learn more about SSUs, see Simplifying on-premises deployment of servicing stack updates.

Known issues in this update

Microsoft is not currently aware of any issues with this update.

How to get this update

Before you install this update

Microsoft combines the latest servicing stack update (SSU) for your operating system with the latest cumulative update (LCU). For general information about SSUs, see Servicing stack updates.

Install this update

To install this update, use one of the following Windows and Microsoft release channels.

AvailableNext Step
Included
Open Start > Settings Update & Security > Windows Update. In the Optional updates available area, you will find the link to download and install available updates.

Check for optional updates
Included
To install this release from the Microsoft Update Catalog, select the option that matches your device architecture (arm64 or x64), and then follow the instructions.

If you want to remove the LCU

Before you decide to remove the LCU, see Understanding the risks: Why you should not uninstall security updates.

To remove the LCU after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You can find the package name by using this command: DISM /online /get-packages.

Running Windows Update Standalone Installer (wusa.exe) with the /uninstall switch on the combined package will not work because the combined package contains the SSU. You cannot remove the SSU from the system after installation.

File information

For a list of the files provided in this update, download the file information for cumulative update 5085516.

For a list of the files provided in the servicing stack update, download the file information for the SSU (KB5083532) - version 26100.8035.

Didn't get offered this update by WU - including as an 'optional' update.

I tried to install it from the relevant .msu files - said 'not applicable' to my version.

Skip the KBxxx3080 msu and the other one will probably install.

Even though this update arrived unexpectedly, I installed it as soon as noticed. No any problem, got 26200.8039 without long waiting at 100% and extra restart.

Apparently something good is going on inside Microsoft. I no longer fear of any new update, unlike it was in the second half of 2025 when every month was a lottery, whether any new update will be successful or not, when need to download it again, uninstall some UI tools, install update manually etc. I hope all this is in the past.

Is this update still causing problems (blocking access to the C: drive) for those who have a Samsung laptop (especially the Galaxy Book 4)?

The problem caused by update KB5079473, which prevents me from logging into the internet despite being connected and having a signal, also occurs on my computer when connecting with Google Chrome. I solved this problem using a script that resets all internet settings. I've been using this script since the beginning of Windows 10 to successfully resolve any connection issues, but now I can't find where to download it.

I installed this via Windows Update Catalog and it was 4.0GB the installer and I proceeded ... I could not be happier with Windows 11 25H2 it feels some how a little more snappier than before and no problems with system function !

I might consider just downloading new cumulative updates manually from Windows Update catalog and pausing the Windows Update in Windows 11 Pro or at least install cumulative updates manually and updating my drivers automatically from Windows 11 update .

phew !

I am quite impressed and very happy with my Windows 11 Pro 25H2 Lunar-Lake system even with 32GB of RAM I wish I had 64GB or more !
Looking forward for my Nova-Lake system this year hoping they Intel and Hewlett Packard release them this year end of 2026 !

In case anyone wants to try it, I have the recently updated link to download the batch script that resets all internet connection settings. This script solves problems like not being able to connect to websites despite having coverage, unblocking slow downloads, and fixing spontaneous internet disconnections or Wi-Fi adapter shutdowns.

After running the script, the PC restarts to apply the changes, and then you have to re-enter your password. I don't recommend trying the other scripts in the same package unless you know what changes they make.

Windows Network Fix.bat

Since I'm on the subject, I also recommend a reversible script with a multitude of tools; I primarily use it to block Microsoft's auto-updates. This is a recently updated version, so I'm not sure if this new version can undo the changes. There are demonstration videos of its tools available.

OOB or not. It seems to hit everyone. The reason for this fix (I noticed this earlier; My current PC did not show up (did earlier) inside my MS-account whatever I did. Strangely it did see my older (non TPM and CPU compliant) PC with 25H2 and a much older laptop with Win10.) was to fix an issue with the MS-account originated from our machines. Some setting was not correct. The fix did it's job. It appeared again. DISM, SFC were fine and no additional to cleanup packages it was a short and fast update....

Besides that 2 new certificates were placed into the certificate intermediate store; "Microsoft Code Signing PCA 2024" and "Microsoft Windows Code Signing PCA 2024". Along side it 2 drivers were replaced inside the C:\Windows\system32\drivers directory; "cmimcext.sys" and "scfilter.sys" both signed and still pointing towards the "old" "Microsoft Windows Production PCA 2011" certificate.

When will that CA2023 or rather PCA 2023? (we better call it PCA 2024 by now) The range lies between June and September 2026. As soon as June 2026 to be save (Mine 25H2 PCA2011 expires in September) We are arriving at March 2026 over a couple of days. How long will it take before they deploy it? When deployed; all PC's arround the world will not be updated on the same day. Some sooner, others later. I would to be on the save side go for March. Otherwise... MS will get a heavy load of customers calls then.... when to late.... With a coverage of Win 11 installations arround 73% of all Windows machines that's... A lot of users..... "Run to the shelters...." :lmao:

I think the real issue that comes up is many machines won't get the update at all for various compatibility and/or BIOS reasons. It'll be really interesting to see how MSC deals with those millions of machines.
