Win Update KB5101650 Windows 11 Cumulative Update build 26100.8875 (24H2) and 26200.8875 (25H2) - July 14

Update temporarily unavailable for some devices with Intel IPF drivers

Important

This update is temporarily unavailable for a limited number of Dell devices that use Intel Innovation Platform Framework (IPF) drivers. This is due to an incompatibility between the update and an Intel component. In some cases, affected devices might experience changes in performance, power consumption, or system behavior. Microsoft is preparing a fix and expects to make the update available for affected devices within the next few days.


Windows Secure Boot certificate expiration
Important: Secure Boot certificates used by most Windows devices were set to expire starting in June 2026. Microsoft has been updating these certificates on PCs and non-managed business devices for the past months. Devices that haven’t received the newer certificates will continue to start, and standard Windows updates will continue to install. We will continue to install the newer certificates via Windows updates in the coming months.

End of updates
Windows 11, version 24H2 Home and Pro editions will reach end of updates on October 13, 2026. Devices running these editions will no longer receive fixes for known issues, time zone updates, technical support, or monthly security and preview updates containing protections from the latest security threats. Enterprise and Education editions remain supported until October 12, 2027.

  • [Secure Boot] This update includes additional high confidence device targeting data, increasing coverage of devices eligible to automatically receive new Secure Boot certificates. Certificate deployment via Windows updates continues
  • [Apps (Known issue)] Fixed: This update addresses an issue that affects certain third-party apps that use OLE Automation to interact with Microsoft Office. After installing the June 2026 security update (KB5094126), these apps might fail to launch Office or open documents.
  • [Input] This update changes hotkey unregister and cleanup behavior. In rare cases, some built-in Windows experiences that rely on previous hotkey lifecycle behavior might temporarily stop responding to certain keyboard shortcuts. This issue can typically be resolved by restarting the app affected. If the issue is not resolved, report it through the Feedback Hub.
  • [Networking] This update introduces a security hardening change that enforces TDI transport registration requirements. As a result, applications that use sockets over unregistered third-party TDI transports might stop working after installing this update. Registered TDI transports are not affected.   • [Recycle Bin (known issue)] Fixed: This update addresses additional scenarios where the confirmation dialog might display an internal Recycle Bin file name instead of the original file name when permanently deleting a file. This issue might occur after installing the June 2026 security update (KB5094126)
  • [Security] This update upgrades the curl tool in Windows to version 8.21.0 and includes security improvements that help protect your device.
  • [Remote Desktop (RDP) Security] Support for SHA-2 certificate thumbprints has been added for trusted RDP publishers, with SHA-1 support retained only for backward compatibility and planned for future removal. New guidance is available for managing RDP file security through Group to help organizations reduce phishing risks by controlling which .rdp files users can open. We recommend IT administrators migrate to SHA-256 thumbprints or a stronger algorithm as soon as possible to avoid disruption.

How to get this update​

Before you install this update

Microsoft combines the latest servicing stack update (SSU) for your operating system with the latest cumulative update (LCU). For general information about SSUs, see Servicing stack updates.

Deployment​

If you deploy dynamic updates such as this update to an existing Windows image, ensure the boot.stl file is included as part of the installation media. Failure to include the file might prevent devices from successfully starting from the installation media and can result in error code 0xc0430001.

Note
The boot.stl file is used during Secure Boot validation and must match the Windows version and architecture of the image you are updating.


To ensure the boot.stl file is included as part of the installation media, do one of the following:
  • Use the Update WinPE script to update an existing Windows image. (Recommended)
  • Manually copy the boot.stl file from the device Windows\Boot\EFI folder to the corresponding folder on your installation media before deploying the update.

search for "corrupt" or "error", bottum up.

You should run this before running SFC.

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

If it comes back it is repairable then run this.

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Posting to note that the fix for the capabilityaccessmanager.db-wal bloat did eventually work. Updated yesterday afternoon. File didn't shrink until about 24hrs post-update. Now it's no longer an insane 30gb (would have been a bit higher if I didn't find a way to delete that file back in June). Anybody who had a similar problem with that file might be able to see that file is fixed now. Guessing it was just a process of "wait for it to happen automatically"

the version you list I can't see was ever an official release of his ?

Do not download "ExplorerPatcher" from any other places than this releases page , as they may contain malware that can compromise your data.

The update was quick. SFC and DISM ScanHealth reported no issues.

Unfortainly the bug inside the CBS-engine (Changed with 8655) is still here. Despite SFC and DISM ScanHealth reported no issues.
Running DISM RestoreHealth downloads 254Mb because it found 11 CSI FileFlags Corrupt. (No files or packages) It repairs them.
A second, thirth, fourth etc. time, it keeps on downloading 254Mb without any appeared reason.
This is the reason why using this command is so slow. It adds (in my case) some extra 10 min of the 14 in total. Normally it should be done in 4 min.
Reported this to Microsoft and the are busy investigating. "In the mean time use ScanHealth for a check. If that says OK then there is no need to use RestoreHealth....."

It seems that 8655 contains a major change. New messages are seen inside the CBS.log that were absent in previous builds.
Stranger; If you install 8037 and update Windows; it first downloads and applies 8655. A subsequential update brings Windows to the last build.
So with other words; when you install 8037 1 update to the latest build is not possible. It has to install 8655 first.

There seems to be something strange with this update. It seems that all packages of 8737 are still there. Normally they would be replaced by the newer builds with sometimes a few packages left behind... All the 8737 packages are marked as superseded but not cleaned up.

its all changing with AI, MS are now uncovering silly numbers of bugs, 571 fixed in the July 2026 update and stuff is breaking - I can imagine 4gig to 6gig of the OS today is just bad patches confusing nasty patches, confusing an unknown number of worse patches. We will be seeing lots of stuff dying and then fixed with 1/8 the codebase over the next year

I've been writing code for a living for over 50 years. In my experience some humans write great, accurate code and some write shite. Same with AI.....

Well, after the update (took some time) and having to do the restore health (took some time), then ran a disk clean system files, I've recovered about 15GB of space.

I am trying to install KB5101650 on our Dell Inspiron 16 5625 laptop. The install process completes but on the 3rd restart the spinning dots freeze forcing a hard shutdown. The processor is an AMD Ryzen 5 5625u 8GB Ram. I've restored the PC using Reflect and tried a repair install but the laptop still freezes on the 3rd restart. I would be grateful for any advice on where to go from here. Thanks Mitch.

Microsoft has blocked the update for some Dell PCs so far.

Given I don't even have a Dell PC, and it somehow managed to make browsers erratic with freezing it wouldn't surprise me if they pull this update for more computers.

I have done some looking into this error and this is some of what I found.


The Connection to the July Update

Microsoft included security and Secure Boot certificate updates in this specific release, (the July WU). Because millions of Windows 11 computers installed the update at the exact same time, they all simultaneously woke up and rushed to connect to Microsoft's Azure SCEP servers (microsoftaik.azure.net) to request new TPM Attestation Identity Keys.

This massive influx of traffic created a bottleneck, forcing Microsoft's servers to aggressively hand out the HTTP/1.1 429 Too Many Requests error to manage the load. Tech communities tracking this update have explicitly noted that this specific Event Viewer error will appear on healthy machines and should simply be ignored.
