 Microsoft Support:

Announcements and messages

This section provides key notifications related to this release, including announcements, change logs, and end-of-support notices.

Windows Secure Boot certificate expiration
Important

Secure Boot certificates used by most Windows devices were set to expire starting in June 2026. Microsoft has been updating these certificates on PCs and non-managed business devices for the past months. Devices that haven’t received the newer certificates will continue to start, and standard Windows updates will continue to install. We will continue to install the newer certificates via Windows updates in the coming months.

End of updates
Windows 11, version 24H2 Home and Pro editions will reach end of updates on October 13, 2026. Devices running these editions will no longer receive fixes for known issues, time zone updates, technical support, or monthly security and preview updates containing protections from the latest security threats. Enterprise and Education editions remain supported until October 12, 2027.

To stay protected and up to date, we recommend you upgrade to the latest version of Windows 11.

Known issues in this update

Symptoms

Microsoft received reports of issues involving inability to run certain games as expected after installing this update.

Ongoing investigation indicates that this issue is associated with certain peripherals or internal device components that support RGB lighting features. These devices might install drivers or software components with file names similar to inpoutx64. On systems where these drivers are found, launching certain games can trigger this issue.

Games identified in reports of this issue include ARC Raiders, MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, and THE FINALS. Reported symptoms include:
  • the game application becomes unresponsive
  • the game application closes without notice
  • the error "EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION" is displayed
  • the device restarts without warning
If you are experiencing this issue or a similar issue, please use Feedback Hub to submit a report. You can open Feedback Hub by pressing the Windows logo key + F. For additional information, see Send feedback to Microsoft with the Feedback Hub app. Your reports are helpful to our investigation.

Workaround

This issue can be prevented by temporarily disabling the inpoutx64 driver using the Windows registry.

Important

This article contains information about how to modify the registry. Make sure that you back up the registry before you modify it. Make sure that you know how to restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up, restore, and modify the registry, see How to back up and restore the registry in Windows.
Follow these steps to disable the driver via the Windows registry:
  • Open the Windows registry. This can be done by opening the Start menu and typing regedit. Select the Registry Editor from the results.
  • Navigate to the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\inpoutx64. This can be done using the folders on the left side of the window, or typing the path into the address line at the top of the window.

    Note
Ensure you have backed up the registry, as per the important note above. It may be necessary if you need to undo the change in the following steps.
  • On the right side of the window, find the registry value named Start. Double click this key and enter the number 4 under the field titled Value data.
  • Close the window and restart your computer.
Please note, it is possible that disabling this registry key can result in unintended behavior, such as issues with RGB features on peripherals or components, or issues with the software used to control RGB features. If you experience such issues and want to restore that functionality, you may re-enable the driver by restoring the registry key to its previous value. You can restore the registry following the steps provided at How to back up and restore the registry in Windows.

Microsoft is investigating the interaction between these RGB-related components and the affected games. Additional details will be provided as they become available.

How to get this update

Before you install this update

Microsoft combines the latest servicing stack update (SSU) for your operating system with the latest cumulative update (LCU). For general information about SSUs, see Servicing stack updates.

Deployment

If you deploy dynamic updates such as this update to an existing Windows image, ensure the boot.stl file is included as part of the installation media. Failure to include the file might prevent devices from successfully starting from the installation media and can result in error code 0xc0430001.

Note
The boot.stl file is used during Secure Boot validation and must match the Windows version and architecture of the image you are updating.

To ensure the boot.stl file is included as part of the installation media, do one of the following:
  • Use the Update WinPE script to update an existing Windows image. (Recommended)
  • Manually copy the boot.stl file from the device Windows\Boot\EFI folder to the corresponding folder on your installation media before deploying the update.
For information about how to apply Dynamic Update packages to existing Windows images, see Update Windows installation media with Dynamic Update.

Install this update

To install this update, use one of the following Windows and Microsoft release channels.

Available
Next Step
✅This update downloads and installs automatically from Windows Update and Microsoft Update.
✅To install this release from the Microsoft Update Catalog, select the option that matches your device architecture (arm64 or x64), and then follow the instructions.

LOL, almost every app and configuration change modifies Windows components unless you leave your PC setup like you got it right out of the box. I recently discovered my Logitech mouse software was breaking and freezing portions of the Windows Settings app and I had to reconfigure it but it's not like I was using some experimental software and hardware. All software and hardware venders can miss an unknown bug and MS sure misses it's share even on public builds.

I had the DISM bug on one machine for one build but was able to repair mine with an ISO repair install. That bug has gone viral now for various users, builds, and machines and it's not always the users fault.
I tried three ways of the repair install, in every instance the DISM still comes back with the "I can't find the repair files anywhere" error.

Yeah, yours is ingrained deep. I don't know what's taking MS so long to correct this issue. If my checkhealth shows good I won't even attempt scanhealth, let alone restorehealth now. It was never an issue before.

Never tried it, didn't even know it existed. I'm surprised there's two different repair applications, could one just be an interface to a common procedure?
They both use the DISM API, functions such as DismCheckImageHealth() and DismRestoreImageHealth(). Any Windows app can call into these.

That's what I figured, hard to believe there would be two independent applications to do the same thing. Not that Microsoft couldn't screw that up, but I tend to believe they didn't.

DISM is a standalone executable. The others are PS commands, which are bare-bones wrappers around the same API that DISM uses. If you're a dev, you can read the detailed WIMGAPI docs and build your own DISM-like app.

Well, there's something different about their results. The PS command thinks everything is fine, but DISM gets the same "can't fine the repair files anywhere" error.

Well, there's something different about their results. The PS command thinks everything is fine, but DISM gets the same "can't fine the repair files anywhere" error.
Not for me, I tried.

I think something changed. The component store Scan Health still indicated something was wrong, just like when I previously ran it, but this time I didn't get the error! However, after I did the restore health, it still indicates there's something wrong with a scan health. However, this is way different that I was getting a week or so ago!

Previously, I was always getting this error. I got the same error whether used a local source or from WU. I did nothing to correct this error since I was running these repairs and it changed. There was also no updates logged, so apparently a ghost come in and fixed something, but not quite perfectly.

Who runs DISM after an update anyway!?!?!? There's no health to restore!!! 🤷‍♂️
Well, some are just curious by nature and run it to see. then it tells you check engine. So you say to yourself ""What's going on ?"" And you pull out the scanner and it has 250 codes but the car seems to run smooth. Now you ask yourself ""Do I leave New York to go to California with all those codes lighting up the dashboard ?"" Some will say ""the heck with it I'M leaving"" and some will be more confused and won't trust their car to go to far and use a moped called LINUX. 🤔😱😉
