Keeping copy window on top of other windows

I feel sure that a copy window stayed open on top of other windows
now when i open an active copy window from the task bar, it stays open for a few seconds then closes

No I mean while it's still copying, the window opens when I click on it from the task bar, but closed again after a few seconds

The taskbar shows current windows, if I click on the 'copy' window, it opens to full size but then after 2-3 seconds it closes and appears back on the task bar

Are you saying that the file or folder window of what's being copied minimizes to the Taskbar?

If it's on top of the desktop it stays open, if it's on top of another folder window it minimizes within a few seconds, as I said I'm certain that it used to stay open, regardless of what was underneath, but not 100% certain

If I'm understanding you correctly I can say that I've never experienced anything like that. Have there been any changes made to the computer such as a Windows or driver update?

Give me a little more detail on exactly what you're doing and I'll see if I get the same results. As for the repair install, it's worth a try.

How is it wrong, you’re asking why the copy progress dialog box minimises to the taskbar (More likely just disappears behind another window)
Those dialog boxes aren’t set to stay in the forefront. If you click on a window behind it then the window behind it will be in front of the copy progress dialog box.
To get it back at the front you need to either:
Click on it from the Taskbar
Minimise any windows in front of it.

If it is actually minimising without you touching anything, I can’t answer as to why it does that, unless there is another process in operation that’s causing another window to come to the forefront.

Can you open a file explorer window, full screen then start a copy process, see if the copy window can be kept open fully on top of th explorer window, without it self minimising to the task bar thanks

JAK, I really don’t need to. I’ve been computing for a long time. I’ll say it again though: The copy progress dialog box is NOT designed to stay above other windows.

Also

“Open” & “Visible” are two different things.
The copy progress dialog box is still open, even if it isn’t visible.

You can use an ahk to make it always at forefront if necessary.

Or you can use portable “smartcontextmenu” that adds an Always On Top to the context menu

Doesn’t sound like it’s self-minimizing, but rather losing focus… which would cause it to not remain at the forefront.
