hey, im not too sure what area to post this under so im just keeping it here

so recently, ive been having a bit of a weird issue with my booting process. it started one random monday at school when my laptop would just keep loop opening the bios menu no matter what i did, like i opened it and it opened bios so i exited and it opened it again, it kept looping. even after i turned it off and on it did the same. however, this was easily fixed when i shut it off and plugged it in before turning it on, from there even if i unplugged it worked fine.

now ever since then its been a bit of a weird thing with my laptop. on the weekends i usually have it plugged in, so even when i hop off it is still plugged in just turned off. as a result when i turn it on either a) bios opens again and i have to turn it off, unplug it and plug it in again or b) it stays stuck on loading.

now, this isnt really causing me many issues so to say - the turning off, unplugging and plugging back in seems to work fine to fix it, and no performence issues whatsoever. but i was just wondering - is this something i have to be worried about?

Well it is not normal, so maybe there is?

I like to start with the simple stuff.
When the BIOS opens, reset the BIOS to defaults and see if there is any difference.


I was going to check if there was a recent BIOS/Firmware update but there were 8 variations to choose from with the Raider GE68HX 13VF
The Raider GE68HX 13VF-062US for instance. It should say under your laptop.

Boot into Setup (Bios) by pressing the DEL key continuously



Go to the Boot Configuration as shown. The First Boot device should be the Windows Boot Manager with a sub menu for your SSD/HDD. If not, change it that way.
Or press F9 to Save Optimized Defaults.

Once in Windows, download DiskGenius and or Crystal Disk Info in my signature. View the SMART info about your drive.
If it is any less than GODD, the drive needs to be replaced.

You can also check the health of your battery:

if it seems to be happening more often ill try this, but honestly i feel like its just to do with the way ive been plugging it.

first instance this happened, i saw someone online say that turning it off, plugging it in again, then turning it on seemed to work because it may be due to some "static energy" of some sort, and er since then ive just been unplugging my laptop before shut off and its been fine. although it hasn't been long, so ill keep you all updated! for the most part ive only underclocked my cpu, nothing else in bios

im currently at school, but hard disk sentinel tells me my disk performence is at 100% and health at 92% if thats any help? ive had this laptop for almost 2 years

i do think there is a bios update pending for my laptop i believe but ive seen a lot that it can easily brick my computer as well and is generally not reccomended unless needed? just a bit worried because im not sure if this is a big deal because its never really affected anything for me. but if you guys feel like its needed i wouldnt mind giving it a shot.

i just wanted to post this more of a way to ask if its really too worrying if its just happened ~ twice? and if i need to take action if it doesnt continue

Short summary: maybe it's the CMOS battery. It can also be that leaving it plugged in too much time isn't good.

I've done this search https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=why+laptop+boots+to+bios . Several possible issues (specially the disk related ones) seem discarded. From the others I'd check the CMOS battery (frequently you can see its voltage in the BIOS or with a Windows hw monitoring app, I like using a multimeter to be sure about causes or not causes, but blindly replacing the battery is very popular and safe and can be effective).

I miss some message, like "press Del to enter BIOS setup" or "insert boot disk and press any key". Unfortunately these messages tend to be abandoned, but if the model would display them, the lack of them is informative.

This doesn't sound me as fixable by a BIOS flash (once unplugged and replugged it returns to normal), it looks more like something physical (like that "static energy" whatever it is more concretely and precisely). I'd try to locate if the manufacturer says anything about leaving the computer plugged in but off. It might affect the battery charging (I'm not expert in laptops) what would be good except if too much time doesn't work well (in general or for lacks of quality, a developed misbehaviour, misdesign or whatever).

If you need to flash a newer BIOS or want to get its advantages, I'd do it with the computer in "normal" situation: you turn it on or reboot and you can either enter the BIOS or not. I suppose all modern computers can flash from the BIOS.

i reckon it could be leaving it plugged for a long time like you said, thank you for the advice!

it seems to be fine for now though after just unplugging it and then turning it off so yeah it might just be some issues with that. i dont think bios flashing would be too necessary
