The user interface will be significantly redesigned in Firefox 157.
To enable the new interface without waiting for the release of Firefox 157, you can set the "browser.nova.enabled" preference on the about:config page.

The user interface will be significantly redesigned in Firefox 157.
The have used an ugly deep purple color everywhere in the user interface. Very fidgety for my old eyes.
And all these round buttons everywhere. Do they think my desktop has to become a smartphone or tablet?

It seems that Mozilla is determined to drive away the last loyal users.
I have been a user pretty much from the beginning and have accepted a lot, but this really takes the cake!
I also tried using a different theme (Classic Light). That does change the purple line around the URL box back to blue, but otherwise all the purple accents remain exactly the same!

If this is what Mozilla sees as the future, I am gone!

I will never update to that release. I will either stay with Fx 156 or move to an ESR version.

I will never update to that release.
The problem is that my bank will not accept it when the version is too old. And they quite critical these days about updating the browser.
Then I would have to use a user agent switcher, but by that after some time I would have more risks.
I did use such an extension in the past, when I used Firefox ESR and the version number was not sent correctly by Firefox.
For instance: if I would use Firefox ESR 153.4 by the end of September, it would only report to the bank (or to any site) Firefox 153.
It stays like that, even one year later when the version is ESR 153.14. So my bank thinks I still am using 153.0 which by then is rather old.
By means of a user agent extension I could change it, but I would have to change that by hand after every update.'

By now I am seriously looking at other browsers. My problem is that I can't use Waterfox or LibreWolf, because their translation into Dutch language is not complete at all. Especially settings often are untranslated. I can write and read English, but for daily use I need a browser that has a correct translation into Dutch (and I'm not the only user in the house). Don't yet know what to use next.

I use the Firefox Theme, Red Fade, I do not have any purple whatsoever, just white outlines.

Don't yet know what to use next.

That’s strange; the bank should be checking certificates, not the browser version.
You could use MS Edge for the bank and Firefox for everything else (because of Manifest V2).
Maybe Chromium will work, only the official assembly from the dev channel
unofficial assemblies via winget
winget search --id "chromium"

The user interface will be significantly redesigned in Firefox 157.
To enable the new interface without waiting for the release of Firefox 157, you can set the "browser.nova.enabled" preference on the about:config page.
I just tried the new interface out and yes I don't like the purple interface and rounded corners either as it doesn't look good when using the "Dark space full transparent" theme, Hopeful we can still disable it using about:config in the future after 157 as "browser.compactmode.show = true" still works and Mozilla changed that long ago.

Also now that I think of it when I did a fresh reinstall of Firefox on my Insider build I wondered why the interface changed and was so ugly now I know why thank's @abactuon.

I've just tried the Nova interface and I'm undecided right now on whether I like it or not.

However, after fixing the little 'annoyance' here (thanks again das10) I now see that I have this (see image).

OK, Mozilla - I get it. You're trying to keep up with Chrome and Edge in what I consider to be a race to the bottom but I'm getting very close to dumping Firefox because if this is how things are going to be with your browser from now on then I want no part of it.

I might start looking at LibreWolf which is recommended by a few members here.

The Browser wars were over at one time, Chrome & MS Edge are to blame an not Mozilla. Firefox Nova can be avoided, it is hard to avoid EDGE.

Given that Firefox is now a secondary browser for me I honestly don't pay a lot of attention to it's appearance anymore. I just keep it up to date and working should I need it for a certain website or event. Same can be said for Chrome and of course Edge my last resort.

I've downloaded LibreWolf but I haven't installed it yet. I have to go out for most of the day (9:30am Sunday here). I'll install and try it out when I get back.

If I like it (I'm sure I will) then I won't uninstall Firefox but I'll remove the shortcuts and make sure it cannot run or update 'behind my back' like Chrome and Edge have a tendency to do with 'default' settings.

Oh, I 'buried' Edge about 6 months ago and made absolutely sure that it cannot run or update when I'm not looking and I don't have or want Google Chrome. I use Helium for the occasional website that doesn't work properly in Firefox at the moment.
