Solved Latest Macrium Reflect 8 updates


Why (??) such a big difference ( about 150MB ! ) in the latest backup-ISO .............??
8.1.7638 = 619MB
8.1.7762 = 779MB
There must be a reason for these bytes............!

Maybe they added chocolate chips to .7762? :D

For .7675 I get 599MB on the USB stick.
Are you sure there's nothing "else" on the USB stick, like maybe a System Volume Information folder, with a few restore points inside? Or a Recycle Bin, with something not fully deleted yet?

    Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?
I used Revo to completely uninstaal 7661. Then I installed 7662, but I still get error 0xc0000395 when booting into Macrium recovery.

If that's a Macrium error number, rather than a Windows one... you'll probably have to post on Macrium's forums.

It told me to do a repair install so I will. Even though W11 boots normally.

Yeah... that sounds like a Windows error then.

You didn't flash your BIOS recently, did you? Error 0xc0000395 seems to revolve around whether the BIOS and/or the Rescue Media, is set to UEFI or not. Double check that Secure Boot is set to UEFI.

Also, when "building" the Macrium Rescue Media, I always check mark the box that says UEFI or MBR (lower left).


Just like when booting from Windows install media (or the Macrium Rescue Media)... I have to choose the UEFI version of my USB stick, on my Boot Menu...

I don't know what method you use to boot from your Macrium Rescue Media, but I use the motherboard's Boot Menu.


To access the Boot Menu....

ACER = ESC, F12 or F9 (probably F12)

HP = ESC or F9 (probably ESC)

I use Shift+reset and 'use another operating system'. I assume any error was in the wim or efi used to make the bootable option.

Thanks. I will use Control Panel to remove the recovery components in case Revo overlooked them. Then I will get MR to rebuild the PE wim and add MR to the Windows boot menu.

I wonder if these issues are a sign of things to come - I get the impression that the leadership has changed with new Phaseolus Vulgaris Counters running the show rather than technical leads now i.e. focus is on sales of leases. I wonder if the techie guys are demoralised (or even less of them now).

I have no evidence to support these assertions other than a sad Black Friday offering.

Yeah... I'm not sure how REVO would deal with the WADK files that are located IN the Macrium directory.
They're NOT a part of Macrium's program, so REVO "might" ignore them when uninstalling Macrium.

On the other hand, REVO may just think to itself... "if it's in the install directory, then it's a part of Macrium".

When you build Macrium's Rescue Media on a USB stick, you'll see a check box in the lower left corner of the build window.
It says something like... UEFI and MBR. I always make sure that's check marked.

It's F2 on my Acer but my method is quicker. I have secure boot turned off as I often boot from USB devices.

I'm not talking about the key press required to enter the BIOS.
I'm talking about the key press required to bring up the Boot Menu that's "outside" the BIOS.

To access the Boot Menu (NOT located in the BIOS)....

ACER = ESC, F12 or F9 (probably F12)
HP = ESC or F9 (probably ESC)

Totally different locations.... The Boot Menu (left pic) is a one time thing... no need to save, and it will auto-return to the "Windows Boot Manager" after next restart.

Oh dear, now I can't rebuild the PE wim. Halfway through downloading it I get a dialogue box popping up which asks me to download or cancel. If I select download it starts again fro m the beginning. I am going to use the RE instead.

Start Create Rescue media and remove boot option. If I'm understanding your issue correctly. Me, I like the boot menu as I don't have to get my thumb drive. (Of course you need if drive dies.)

Had that issue myself on a client device. The only resolution was to try again when things weren't so busy.

That happens sometimes.
Just open something like Minitool Partition Wizard, and format the USB stick as FAT32, then do the Macrium build again.
After a few "builds", Macrium likes a freshly formatted stick.
Like a dog that wants a fresh stick to play fetch with.
Maybe we need to give Macrium a "Milk-Bone" dog biscuit every now and then. :-)

The joys of 3rd party software.
Which... would probably work fine if MS quit changing everything, every month or two. :D
