Solved Latest Macrium Reflect 8 updates


But Macrium says recent Windows updates may have screwed things up, and you may have to rebuild WIM. It's worth a try to use the Ctrl + Build button trick and see what happens. Rebuilding WIM shouldn't happen very quickly.

I installed it on 3 laptops and used the rescue to update the Boot, USB-FlashDrive, and DVD.
It installed well and I will use it on them tomorrow because I already finished all of them for today.

I had never had a problem building rescue media until the last few MR updates. Then nothing but grief, until I tried all of the above.

simple steps
1. close MR
2. delete the folder C:\boot\macrium
3. start Macrium
4. create your Boot Menu
5. ready

I'm not sure why you seem to have problems building bootable media, but I have just successfully built the 8.1.7771 .wim to update the boot menu, and then updated my rescue usb. I've booted from the usb several times now, and confirmed that 7771 does show the list of existing backups again...

I will update my older laptop to the latest Macrium version,7784, and see if it will make The Windows boot menu bott into The RE. Then I will follow your excellent suggestion. But last week, uninstalling MR with Revo Pro and reinstalling did not fix it.

After patching, the installer searched my entire drive and then said the software could not be found. I am doing a full reinstall of MR.

MR 7784 still can't add RE to my old W10 laptop boot menu in a workable condition.

However, I have used a W11 laptop to make my USB HDD, with all my Macrium backups on it, bootable into a W11 32-bit RE!

This bootable USB HDD will boot my W10 32-bit laptop!

Maybe not, but if Macrium adds w10 RE to the boot menu I expect it to boot! PE does not add wifi access.

How do you add WinPE to the boot menu? Can you also add WinRE with wifi access?

I may have misunderstood the questions, "How do you add WinPE to the boot menu? Can you also add WinRE with wifi access?" If so, apologies.

@kelper, sorry for the questions. When you say it won't boot, I assume the option to boot to Macrium is present and when you select it, it fails.

Do you get any kind of error message when the boot fails or does it just change to a black screen and die.

When I select 'another operating system' and then Macrium Reflect it starts as normal but each stage is slow, and I mean minutes, and after 'Setting high performance power mode' it just reverts to the boot menu.

Hi there
Just download the winpe stuff (adk), create the iso and then use dism /Apply-Image using the boot.wim as the image file. Then add to bootloader via bcdboot.exe.

If problems --I'll try tomorrow with more detailed instructions-- getting a little bit "pissed" tonight -- some nice early Xmas boozing !!!! -- actually at 3 Deg C here currently warmer than in UK or N.Europe !!!!!!

Yes, you misunderstood. 😁But, I'm grateful for all and any responses.

I was asking jimbo how to achieve the boot menu shown on post #811. But looking at the icon for the third entry, for Windows Preinstallation Environment, I see it uses virtualisation. This is a non starter on my laptop as it only has 2GB of RAM and a slow processor.

Virtualisation works but is beyond painfully slow.

Wow! That's good of you. But I will be happy when Macrium sort this out. In your screenshot the icon has a faint VHD, I thought that signified virtualisation, was I wrong? Answer tomorrow and happy supping. It was -8 degrees C here this morning.

When creating the resque-media , I always choose for the ISO , always get " can not find the winpe " , so its downloaded from the site , drivers are included , after a while the ISO ready for use .
This ISO-file copied to my Ventoy-sticky , reboot and voila , a new bootmedia is ready for use............
Never gave me problems , latest 7784 tested severely , made a backup and verified ,ok !
After a while rebooted , choosed this backup-file , reverted to it , in a few minutes , all fine again !! :-)
Macrium is the best , though , imo; too much updates lately...............

I have made the iso and added it to Ventoy. But I want to be able to boot into MR without having to carry a USB around. I've paid for this utility and Macrium needs to get this sorted ASAP. All the updates are a sign that many customers are having issues.
