I couldn't care less if I didn't have Reflect. I am sensing that people will eventually move away from it.

Most of my restorations are done with TeraByte Image For Windows, but some are done with Drive Snapshot. I've never had a failed restoration with either of them.

It is up to individuals to decide if the lease cost is acceptable.

I traded in one of my 5 V8.1 licences for 50% off in perpetuity. I pay £18 per year - price of less than 4 pints of beer.

For that, I still have the best and most flexible tool and full support, and all updates.

A new version comes out every 3/4 years, so my accrued lease costs are hardly any different to buying a new perpetual licence.

It is faster, and its EASY exclusion of various folders is a great new feature.

Anyway, you will never find out how many sign up for it or not.

Apparently, the 8.1.8439 LTSC release came out on February 6th -- but as of a few minutes ago, there is still no update for us Home users.

So, has 8.1 been abandoned for home users now in favor of version X (10)?

Macrium will support 8.1 until X is one year old. This means just bug fixes, new features are a bit unlikely. But I will stay with v8.1.8325 until it stops working.

I use Macrium, bought several licenses for myself and clients. I may yet spring for X. Speed is something I don't need, mine run at night on their own and I'm not sure how much more reliable it can be, it hasn't failed me yet.

Edit: If you want a fast backup using V8.1 try an NMVe drive in an external enclosure using a USB-C port.
This is the enclosure I went with.

Why? v8.1.8325 is the current, maybe last, version of 8.1.
Unless there is some massive bug (unlikely at this point) it will probably stay the last version.

I understand, but the release notes for this version indicate some bug fixes -- so we should be getting them for the Home version as well.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven below to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

Yes, I understand that LTSC is for commercial customers, but since it has bug fixes, they should still be releasing those fixes for us Home users.
