Yes, you can reinstall your paid for v8 as long as you take some precautions first.

Make sure you have a record of your licence key. Use 'Help > About Macrium Reflect' then click on the licence key it shows to copy it to the clipboard. Paste it into Notepad so you can save it.

You'll need the installer to re-install v8. Download the Reflect Home v8 Download Agent:
https://updates.macrium.com/reflect/v8/ReflectDLFull.exe
Run it to download the installer for the latest version of Reflect Home v8 (un-tick its box to run the installer after download).

In Reflect v8 use 'Help > Remove license...' to un-register the key and uninstall Reflect.

With the key and the installer you can now reinstall your paid version of v8 at any time, on this or any other PC.

The download agent for the Reflect X Home Trial is: https://updates.macrium.com/reflect/v10/ReflectDLHT.exe

Note that when you are done testing and go back to v8 it will not be able to read any of the .mrimgx images made by Reflect X. It uses a new image format.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

@Caledon Ken In the future if you do ever to need to move to Macrium X a good time to do so would be the yearly Black Friday Sale around Nov 28 2025, Every year Macrium usually has a 50% off Black Friday sale. 4 pack $50 USD or 1 PC $25 USD which is exactly the same as the annual Trade in offer was.

As a bonus you should then be able to renew your yearly subscription at 50% off when and if the next Black Friday sale offers the same discount.

That seems odd. I did a trial version of X back when they first offered it, and it was not much improvement over 8.1. But recently, I did another trial, this time of version 10.0.8495, and it was much faster -- cut the backup time by 1/3 over 8.1.

You have to be careful to compare like with like. A backup is only as fast as the slowest link, writing to an external USB drive is slower than to an internal drive, even slower if it's an HDD. For a valid comparison you need to back up the same amount of date to the same type of drive.

I've done that comparison twice now. The first time when Reflect X was launched backed up to an external HDD, X was about 1.7x faster than v8. The second time was more recently with Reflect X v10.0.8447 backing up to another partition on the same internal NVMe SSD. It was well over twice as fast as v8.

Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.

Nothing new for v10. Looks like v8 is playing catch-up, Reflect X got that security patch in April.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Tested v8.1.8595 and found an issue when restoring an image.
I had created new USB media so it had the v8.1.8595 of reflect.exe on it.
I created an image then tested restoring.
Three out of three times when the restore got to 99% this message popped up on the screen.
Clicked OK.
All partitions were restored correctly but have never seen this message before.
Recreated USB media and still had this message on restore at 99%.
