Can confirm this as a bug. Checked right now and it's back... again. I thought i forget to uncheck it - the 2nd time around, but it's back for the 3rd time.

"If it isn't broken, don't fix it"

A lot of problems can be avoided by applying that rule to driver updates.

Yup, I have the recurring taskbar tray icon issue on one machine as well since the software updated. And it's not from the drivers as I'm still on the old Dell factory driver, it's the new software app update causing it.

I loaded this latest version, it still has the bug that it briefly blanks my main display from time to time. At least so far, it hasn't hung when the computer goes in to sleep mode and required a forced restart! The previous version still had that problem, I've been using the CPU video until a new driver came out.

I sure with Nvidia would get their act together! Stop putting new useless features in and get the drives work with your hardware.

It seems the latest NVIDIA app and NVIDIA control panel updated together and are linked. No issue with the icon staying off on the older machine but the newer machine with the more advanced integrated graphics and Optimus options keeps turning on the NVIDIA control panel icon by itself. If I turn it off in the app then I lose the manage display mode icon as well which I like to keep on.Screenshot 2025-12-06 085213.webp

I installed the Driver using NVCleanstall and Nvidia App is stripped away - so i don't have it on my system, only have the classic/legacy Nvidia Control Panel. :|

Do you still have the manage display mode icon I pictured that let's you quickly switch between integrated, Optimus, and NVIDIA only GPU? That's the green icon in the tray with the A on top.

Nope, can only switch between Nvidia and iGPU - from Manage 3D Settings, don't have (and never had) - any setting for selecting Optimus. Tho, my laptop doesn't have a Mux Switch (the Display - can use only Intel's iGPU).

Gottcha, it's one aspect of the software app and control panel I like not only for convenient switching but for just quickly checking the graphics mode status to verify it hasn't changed on an update or software install etc. Sadly the NVIDIA app is required for that taskbar functionality however.

I think it also needs a Mux Switch. Without it - the display is locked to iGPU (and the input lag that comes with that - while using Nvidia's dedicated GPU - since Intel iGPU will always handle the display mode - no matter what). Then again, 100% it does - if that description is accurate: Nvidia GPU Only.

Yes, and of course the mux switch for the switching capability. The taskbar tray switch just makes for a more convenient way to change it or check it's status which is why I like it.

If your graphics card supports it the taskbar switches will be in the NVIDIA control panel options menu. It'll depend on your graphics card mux capability.

Just set the service (NVIDIA Display Container LS ) on manual /off , no problems so far , on my GeForce GTX 960 .
Updated on 27-7-2025 , driver version ; 580.88 .
Im not a gamer , useless to update this driver everytime , will stay on this driver for now........... :wink:

Same here, unticked, closed, when launched manually afterwards the tick is gone but after a few minutes it reappears in the tray and the tick is back ...
Nasty bug this ...
