Well, I have my screen set to shutoff after 10 minutes of inactivity.
It doesn't really turn off... it just naps. :-)

I leave mine on but turn the monitor off [habit from CRT days]. It would only be off for about 6 hours anyway.

That's a good option but I have to leave mine on for my cats to use. They have a hard time logging back in. LOL

You can get that fixed but the cost would be as high as getting a new case I suspect. I know my local guy would charge around 80 to fix the power switch plus the cost of a new part so I would get a new case.

Sorry to hear your computer is down, Jerry. As @BunnyJ said, it probably is cheaper to get a new case if you can wait that long. Perhaps there's a place you can pick one up locally.

Sounds as if there may be more issues with the power supply or maybe even the motherboard, I have tell a client the same as her HP quit turning on. She doesn't use it for much so in the final analysis I will just replace it with a good used one I have on hand, actually cheaper for her in the long run as I have no money invested in that used one.

It is very easy to improvise those PC power button in case the physical button on your PC's case broke down. It is just a matter of tapping a momentary switch on the mobo's front panel headers.

1637933906186.png

On my daughter's PC, since the PC itself is placed too high for her to reach the power button, I split the power header connector and tapped a big red switch I got from dollarama store.

1637934106419.png

Even just an ordinary screwdriver can power your PC on and off by just shorting those 2 pin headers on the motherboard. But of course I will not recommend it.

PSU and case change still aren't that hard or expensive. Even the motherboard can be replaced for under 100.. but now the cost is adding up. If it works fine with the exception of turning it off/on I would simply leave it on.

You can get that fixed but the cost would be as high as getting a new case I suspect. I know my local guy would charge around 80 to fix the power switch plus the cost of a new part so I would get a new case.
Thanks Bunny J we don't have any pc repair shops in my towne but I don't like to leave my pc with anyone unless I know them well

It is very easy to improvise those PC power button in case the physical button on your PC's case broke down. It is just a matter of tapping a momentary switch on the mobo's front panel headers.

On my daughter's PC, since the PC itself is placed too high for her to reach the power button, I split the power header connector and tapped a big red switch I got from dollarama store.

Jerry, you can always try @badrobot's solution here. It's pretty cool and inexpensive, especially since you live in a small town. I'm in the same boat as you in that I live in a small town. We do have a Dollar Tree, though.

The one in my town is fair at best. He tried to diagnoses my issue and then after a bit he tossed his hands up and gave up. I had to figure out what was wrong. There was a guy in the town/city next to me, Knoxville TN, and he was great. But he had to close

Any momentary switch will do. Even those doorbell buttons will work. :)

thats a great Idea
Just follow the wire that connects the power button and the motherboard. It doesn't have a polarity. You can't go wrong with it.

Please post back your solution. I want to see how cool your solution is. :)
