Solved LG TV conn'd to AMD Mini PC is blinking/crackling

I've found only recently do I actually feel better with night mode on, but I don't use it ever on my TV. I do when reading books on my phone at night, though.

Reading books with night mode is quite different. It feels like reading an old book that has turned yellow, not very annoying. Watching movies with night mode looks like you are watching an old faded copy of the film and this IS annoying. I prefer neutral colors to enjoy the movie as the director intended.

Well that depends on what we mean by Night Mode. Since most kinds are adjustable, you know? I have it on my PC but barely on, which ever so slightly warms up the picture instead of sterile blue.

Not when I used dark background and light text everywhere I can. Including in my reader apps. Forced on my system (as Dark Mode) and overridden forced in the system too.

Same on my PCs. And anywhere else I can get dark mode working.

It's not different than using an amber monochrome monitor from 40 years ago.

Precisely why I don't like the dark mode. It feels too odd by today's standards.

Light mode is wasted light space. Dark mode, and particularly with OLED-based displays, is more natural to me, as well as more energy saving.

I cannot stand dark text on a white background. All that white space is activated pixels projecting more light to my eyes, which I don't need.

I'm just here to verify it was the TV. One week later, no issues.

Better to use Vincent Teoh's recommendations from his YT Channel HDTVTest

I have an update! Do not worry, this sounds like bad news but I'm reporting one of two possibilities on what has caused this.

RECAP

I had an OLED TV upset with my Mini PC. For way too long I thought it was the Mini PC, to the point I bought a new one simply as trouble-shooting. The result was that the TV itself got 'upset' when the Mini was plugged in and somehow borked the TV's own OS. I reset the TV, life was good again.

NEW DEVELOPMENT

So that Mini I bought was a Beelink I purchased kinda quickly, not doing a lot of research. It turns out I could get a way better deal on a very similar unit and this one had a bad sleep issue -- so it's going back. So then I bought a new Mini, a Trigkey I'll discuss in a different post -- and it caused the issue to return!

But don't panic! We know the fix. Y'all helped me find it. Why I'm sharing this is I know the symptoms. Mainly when you boot up the Mini PC, if the logo isn't small and sharp (as it should be on a 4K set) but instead big and kinda stretched... you broke the LG TV again.

(I also use a screencap software called Greenshot, and if that makes the screen go black momentarily, the LG is 'broken' again.)

CAUSES

It's one of the following --

1. If the LG had one Mini attached, and you unplug and plug in a new one -- that alone might confuse the TV.
2. When I first plugged the Mini in, it booted with the logo properly. Within minutes I played with the display resolution options in Window 11, attempting to make the picture sharper. It was THEN I believe I broke the TV OS. That when I tried to make it sharper but changed my mind, it became confused.

So there we go. It's something in there.

Some TVs are very picky on HDMI signal, if it is not exactly the resolution and refresh rate they expect, they might fail to switch to that. Unfortunately this is a known issue in most brands, including the well known and expensive ones. I guess this is because they have a fixed set of modes and respective refresh rates and if they don't find an exact match they fail. They don't attempt to adjust the incoming signal into a supported mode. They are not as flexible as a standard PC monitor. I have seen for example some computers outputting 1920x1080 at 59Hz instead of exactly 60Hz. A standard PC monitor would have no issues.

So I reset the TV (which isn't too trying) and BOOM it's fixed again. I'm %99 sure that playing in display settings triggers the issue. And so I won't.
