M2 SSD not seen

I have 2 M2 SSD drives that are seen in the BIOS but are not seen In windows How ca I get these disk Back? They are not seen in the disk management toll either.

You need to configure BIOS SATA Configuration setting to IDE.

If you don't see a drive in Disk Management, try to find it in Device Manager. It may have missed a driver and is shown as unidentified device. If Windows cannot install this driver automatically (it's a rare case, at least a generic driver usually works, even if not perfectly), then try to install the driver from SSD manufacturer.

"Back"? You were able to see them in Windows previously?

You have to change the Sata Configuration setting from Bios can you post screenshot of Sata Configuration options.

Got it I had RAID installed so the SATA device was set as RAID instead of ACH

I see that the OP found his error. (I presume that the wrong setting didn't happen spontaneously.)

I've seen BIOS's where the Default setting for SATA is RAID, [makes no sense to me], if this is one of these cases then a glitch could set it back to default

Not a rhetorical question: have you seen anything similar for NVME (PCI-E) M.2 drives?

I have not, but of course they are relatively modern and I no longer build more than the occasional system, whereas at one time I used to build a lot for Business clients many of which actually needed the RAID active

of course you can have NVME SATA Drives so these could be in a raid array

Just out of curiosity I just checked the manual for my current Motherboard and it includes a separate on off switch in the BIOS for RAID for the board's two NVMe M2 connectors

To pick a nit, I believe that NVME exists only for PCI-E drives. SATA M.2 drives cannot include NVME. There are also PCI-E M.2 drives that are not NVME; I have an old one from Plextor. (Not in service now.)

I have a motherboard that permits RAID for NVME M.2 drives. It's not turned on by default, fortunately. (I'm only using one M.2 drive, regardless. It's PCI-E 4.0.)

I agree that setting SATA ports to IDE is not the correct answer. Making sure RAID is disabled is the correct answer. While you can create a RAID array using SSDs, if you are not doing a RAID array, you want AHCI for SATA, not IDE. And neither AHCI nor IDE applies to NVMe SSDs. They require NMVe drivers, not AHCI nor IDE drivers.

Uh, yeah.... no SSD's do not use IDE or connect to IDE cables. IDE was a thing of yesteryear (80's to late 90's) :wink:

Actually, DRU. on my old BIOS machine, though the SSDs I had were connected via SATA, they (and the controller they were connected to) actually showed up in Windows 10 as IDE devices, not SATA.

So this is entirely possible. However, it is more likely that this machine with M.2 support is actually UEFI based, so the whole IDE thing is highly unlikely.

Let's "actually" put things in perspective here.... show me an m.2 SSD drive using any kind of IDE port or cable? Show me an X570 chipset with a UEFI BIOS having an IDE option?

We can always find whataboutisms. Find one that applies to the OP's question with regards to an m.2 SSD drive that involves IDE?

Highly unlikely means there's a chance. Its the difference between impossible and improbable. Improbable means there's a slim chance, impossible means no chance, not even slim. There's NO chance FreeBooter's suggestion works here given the OP's system. Now if you want to include modifying the BIOS or including third party hardware, well...

Yes, some chipset controllers under Device Manager still show up as IDE ATA/ATAPI but that's just a naming convention Microsoft still uses. Click the dropdown arrow and you will see the actual controller in use - usually SATA AHCI controller.

Anyway I didn't mean to come off snippy, but It was the "Actually, Dru." reply in quoting my post that drew my reply.

Lets just chalk it up to a misunderstanding and move on. Cool?
