NVME is protocol for PCI-E x4 devices which is proper identification for such hardware. To pick a nit, I believe that NVME exists only for PCI-E drives. SATA M.2 drives cannot include NVME. There are also PCI-E M.2 drives that are not NVME; I have an old one from Plextor. (Not in service now.)
I have a motherboard that permits RAID for NVME M.2 drives. It's not turned on by default, fortunately. (I'm only using one M.2 drive, regardless. It's PCI-E 4.0.)
