Cheers

You can experiment to find what works for you by changing the magnifier to "lens" or "change how mouse pointer works in magnifier."
The "lens" view in the magnifier creates a movable, rectangular magnifying glass that zooms in only on the specific screen area surrounding your mouse pointer. How each works isl explained in the MS article.

Well, or you just run a small Python program, which has a tray icon to quit the app, while only magnifying the taskbar when it is running. The script shows a 3× magnified strip above the taskbar whenever the mouse is over it, and hides it otherwise.
  • It only handles the primary monitor's taskbar, with the taskbar at the bottom (the Windows 11 default).
  • It's a screenshot view, so you click the real icons, not the magnified ones.
  • ZOOM and VIEW_W at the top of the script control the magnification and size.
You can and should review the attached python code (just created it a few minutes ago; and I did not extensively test it, but it works for me).
To get it started, rename it to taskbar_magnifier.py, install the potentially missing libraries, and run a CMD line with "pythonw taskbar_magnifier.py"

Feel free to modify or share.

@Canthor

Thanks
I fiddled around with it a bit on a Linux Host (already got all the Python libraries and dev environment already installed and configured etc) -- and it works fine -- Just too late today to try and get a proper Windows python environment on a load of machines !!!!
Thanks for the idea - never thought of using Python - even though it's incredibly useful and quick for all sorts of stuff !!. Python also is reasonably "OS agnostic" -- i.e at the source level the code is virtually the same on whatever the underlying host OS it's being executed on. !!

Cheers
