After reading an article saying that the bad guys are now disabling AV and that you should enable Tamper Protection I'm looking for some feedback.

Your antivirus is under attack from new "killer" tool - here's what we know

I went into Malwarebytes settings and I see Tamper Detection is disabled. I assume that is the default, I don't remember disabling. If I enable there are several categories you can choose to protect like shut down, settings, scanner, etc.

Those folks in this forum using Malwarebytes, do you have Tamper Protection turned on?

If I enable all are there any draw backs or things I should consider?

Are there any categories I should not enable?

Will I notice any changes in day to day operations?

Any feedback will be appreciated.

Thanks.

@Caledon Ken ,

I am a long time Malwarebytes Premium user. I am also ranked as an "Expert" on their Forums, which I usually visit daily.

I did turn on Tamper Protection for a short time. My research, and the consensus on the Malwarebytes Forums is that enabling Tamper Protection will not do much, if anything, to enhance your anti-malware security.

I found it a pain to constantly having to enter a password to alter my settings, so I disabled it after a month or so. Other than that, I noticed no appreciable impact on my computers when it was enabled.

I hope this helps. Have a great day.

Regards,
Phil

As for increasing that computer's security, YMMV. Once users have tailored MB5, few settings are likely to need changing.
If system penetration occurs, the bad actor is locked out from one of your strongest defense tools.
If you forget the password to Tamper Protection, nobody can help, and you will need to reinstall MB5 to recover. Although that is how your password manager can save the day.
IMHO, Tamper Protection is a very worthwhile feature. Use it.

Cheers

Thank you both.

I use a password manager so I should be good from that aspect. I also don't make many changes although it would become a little tiresome if every Malwarebytes update call for password.

Thanks again for the input.
