Media Player version 11.2401.2.0. Is there a way to get rid of the "could not complete the rip" message?

The sfc details folder, when I open it, is empty. In the folder there are some areas named "sfc details" which I tried to open, with all clicks. Nothing. Am I missing something?
Hi Wolken 🙏
What is the extension of the SFC Details file? It’s obviously not a .txt file

I suggest @Wolken try foobar...,
I just finished ripping this 4 CD set, (stole portable Optical Drive from church!!!), to Lossless WAV.
Let me point out that this ensemble and production company is pristine!
Immaculate rip, all 60 tracks! Sounds amazing!

Out of curiosity, and genuinely i ask in order to be educated lol, If ripping games and movies etc etc is considered piracy/illegal...how are cd's any different? I thought it was generally the same, even if you've paid for a copy, no? Especially when we mention DRM which is effectively in place to stop the ripping, Like Denuvo DRM for games for example.

Mind you, there's a heck of a lot more piracy involved with DVD's than anything else.

@Edwin, I think it may depend on which country you live in. In the UK for instance:

This is an article from 8 years ago and I don’t believe that the ruling has been overturned/changed. I am also not sure how wide this rulling reaches or if there are similar rulings in the USA
In short;
Music industry organisations have won a high court battle over measures introduced by the government allowing people to lawfully copy CDs and other copyright material bought for their own private use.

In Australia

You can copy your legitimately acquired music, for example a purchased CD or music legitimately downloaded from the internet, if:

  1. The copy is for your private and domestic use only; and
  2. The copy is for playing on a different device.
BUT there are limits to what you can do, for example:

  • You cannot burn copies of your CDs to give to friends. You can only create copies of legitimately acquired CDs for your own private and domestic use to play on another CD player that you own. You need to keep your original CDs.
  • You cannot burn copies of your CDs for commercial use. That means that you cannot copy CDs for use for playing in your café or retail store, for use as a DJ or any other non private purpose.
  • You cannot share your music online. Uploading or distributing music on the Internet without the permission of the copyright owner is an offence, punishable under civil, and in some cases, under criminal law.
  • You cannot copy other people’s CDs to your digital music player. You can, however, transfer CDs that you have acquired legitimately to your own digital music player. You need to keep your original CDs.
  • Copies of sound recordings are to be used for your own private and domestic use. They must not be played publicly or lent to friends and acquaintances. You may, however, lend copies you have made to members of your family and household.

I’m not sure what the True/False answers are in relation to?
I might try that tutorial Denis posted before. I am stuck on my iPad, I busted my PC trying to help someone in here with Outlook pst issues.
I suppose a screenshot of your final window would help. Print screen button on your PC should open the Sniping tool.
Just use the attachment button on the bottom of the post box when youre posting.

Most of these members posting to you, I will happily admit, know a lot more than I do about these things. I was kind of relieved when they chimes in my friend.

The sfc details folder
There should not be any folder, only a text file and that should be where you told it to be.
On the far left of the sfc page are tmp80c.
Something has gone seriously wrong but I don't know what.
You want me to send you a screenshot? Really?
I don't think you did what you thought you did.
That's why I asked for screenshots.
I hope that seeing those screenshots will help me help you to extract & post your SFC results.

I don't know if SFC will achieve anything for the WMP problem that kicked all this off but I think it is worth resolving so you can use SFC results in the future.

All the best,
Denis

@Edwin, I think it may depend on which country you live in.
I don't care! I bought my entire CD collection with my own gutdim hard earned money, and I'm gonna rip 'em to my PC!
So, you guys just turn a blind eye and be on your merry way!!! :zany:

Seriously though, I don't think the music industry gives a :poop: about CD's anymore, they're making tons of money from streaming!

😵 done, my friend.

And I believe this is why the industry is against it. Because if you want a digital copy of what you own, you need to by a digital copy. As if anyone will do that.
I agree, I bought it, I’ll digitise it for my own use.

But these are copyright issues, frowned upon conversations in here. However legal in Australia.

I'm sorry but I think such discussions are best left until after the OP's problems have been resolved not while the OP is still having problems extracting SFC results.

Mind you, there's a heck of a lot more piracy involved with DVD's than anything else.
It's been awhile but this is how I remember it. Copying content from disk we legally own for our own use comes under the Fair Use policy. If it wasn't for the Fair Use policy VCRs would have been removed from the market. What is illegal is using software or devices to bypass the Encryption if the disk is copy protected. Unless someone decides to distribute the copied content to others I doubt they have to worry about being arrested.

I'll rip a CD in Windows 11 sometime next week and will post back if I experience any problems.

I've just tried ripping a CD for the first time in Windows 11 WMP. My version is 12.0.22621.3296.
Despite everything looking like it did in Windows 10 & the CD playing OK, as soon as the rip started WMP crashed.
I tried to do it in Windows 10 WMP as well [v12.0.19041.4170, my OS is 22H2]. The same crash happened. I last ripped a CD in January 2023 and that was done without any problems.

I'm now ripping disk 1 successfully in AnyBurn Portable in my Windows 10 computer.
Done & the mp3s play correctly.
I'm now ripping disk 2 successfully in AnyBurn Portable in my Windows 11 computer.
Done & the mp3s play correctly.

I have noticed a one odd thing.
- AnyBurn shows the track titles.
- WMP had not. I used the 'Find album info' function but it did not help. I did not think it was significant at the time because it has happened before for compilation CDs such as this that have not been registered in the online databases.

When I play any of the ripped tracks in Windows 11 WMP, a small icon shows offering to rip the CD.
RipCD icon during ripped mp3 playback.png
The icon also appears if I'm playing old-ripped mp3s such as the ones I'd ripped in Windows 10 WMP in January of last year.
So it knows the mp3 file has come from a CD. That must be buried somewhere in the mp3 data structure.
There is no such icon in Windows 10.

I used that icon and it successfully ripped disk 2 [that happened to be in at the time even though it had no relation to the track that I was playing when i spotted the icon].
- The disk 2 rip completed correctly.
- The rip does not include track or artists info.
- Using the same procedure for the disk 1 rip failed.
And I prefer having the track names written for me so I'll use AnyBurn from now on.

Since WMP's ability to play mp3s remains, I'll stick with WMP for the time being & use AnyBurn if I buy any more CDs.
Some years ago there was an announcement or a rumour about WMP being removed. In hunting around, I found that MusicBee has a very WMP-like user interface [lists of tracks, playlists, ability to specify folders to monitor] and that suits me. I won't bother taking any action yet but that's what I'll start with if it becomes necessary.

The trouble with this thread is that I ended up buying a cheap CD to have something to test and I have spent the entire day since my last post repeatedly listening at full blast to
Oh, pretty woman, then
Crying, then
Dream baby, then
In dreams, then
It's over, then
Blue bayou, then
Love hurts, then
Only the lonely, then
You got it, then
Oh, pretty woman again, then
Oh, pretty woman again.
I haven't got anything else done at all.

There should not be any folder, only a text file and that should be where you told it to be.

Something has gone seriously wrong but I don't know what.

@Wolken,

I'm still concerned about what happened during your attempt to extract SFC results & I remain ready to help resolve the mystery.

If any busy body govt official gets within 1 KM of my place there's a couple of hungry dogs waiting for them. If I buy a CD and want to give it away it's mine to do as I want with -- I accept copying and selling for profit is piracy but any other use such as ripping to a NAS so you can play on a remote device is entirely my own business.

@Edwin actually still quite a lot of people care about CD's -- especially people who like high quallity drm free classical music, Streaming while convenient isn't always the most convenient ways to organise music collections and all sorts of tracks / titles don't stay in the streams forever.

Cheers
