Media Player version 11.2401.2.0. Is there a way to get rid of the "could not complete the rip" message?

Thats as funny as how I managed to quote you with that comment above the quote. I think I smell burnt toast.

Ah-ha! Someone is getting to be a forum wise man. :D

Found it, thanks y'all! 👍😉

Is the problem evident in Windows media player [i.e. the legacy thing]?
wmplayer.exe

Its titlebar will confirm its name Windows media player legacy [legacy being a highly specialist technical term meaning that it works].
Its Help menu will give its version number but that is not significant. As long as it's legacy, we will all know what you are talking about.
WMP, Help.png

I found that browsing through its Organise, Options & Organise, Customise navigation pane allowed me to make several very useful changes to its behaviour such as preventing internet databases from changing any track titles later on.
So do ask about anything that you want help with.

I have only kept two diagrams of WMP Options that I thought were important. If you get stuck then I would happily make a complete set for you.
WMP, Options, Player.png - WMP, Options, Library.png

Here are my posts about the WMP navigation pane in the sequence I think is most helpful.

Another huge thanks for helping me find Windows Legacy Media Player. At my age (74) it would not have occurred to me to look under All Apps, etc. Thanks to all for your help.

EDITED TO ADD: Denis, thanks to you as well. Your post came through as I was writing the previous one. You provided some very interesting avenues and I will check them out. Rips are coming out as complete, by the way. THANKS!!!! 👍❤️

Hope y'all are still there because something weird just happened. I was on Legacy, slipped an album in to rip and the whole thing changed to the NEW windows. Just took legacy completely off. It called the album "unknown". Is that what is supposed to happen?

THANKS!

I suspect that you have not disabled AutoPlay and it is that that is calling up the new thing.
I have disabled all automatic actions when CDs are inserted and I suspect that you need to do the same.
Turn On or Off AutoPlay - ElevenForumTutorials

I also suspect that WMP Legacy is still running; I think the new thing has been started but the WMP Legacy you had open is still open.

If I am wrong about AutoPlay sorting things out then I'd like to see screenshots to help me understand what has happened.

I've also made a set of screenshots of my WMP legacy, Options settings.
So if you want to see examples, I'm ready.

All the best,
Denis

I *did* have "Auto-Play" turned on. Off now and Legacy is behaving normally. I don't suppose there's a way to delete the "new" one and keep Legacy? I sure am glad I made it to this forum. I was beginning to think I should have waited and kept W10 instead. Thanks to everyone one again. When I finish ripping about 100 more cd's, I plan to start on cassettes to mp3 using Goldwave. A very nice guy on their forum is helping me with that, so this little project of mine will be finished. Thanks to some new and very nice friends.

I never bother. I don't see any benefit in uninstalling any of their boring apps.
There are tutorials about removing many or all built-in apps but I just let them sit there being ignored.
I urge you to make a system image before taking such a step.
- We can talk about system images if you don't already know about them.
- I make a new system image every month so I am well protected against Windows getting corrupted & against disk failure.
Uninstall Apps - ElevenForumTutorials
[Option 1 of the tutorial is what Winuser has commented on in the next post.]

When I finish ripping about 100 more cd's, I plan to start on cassettes to mp3
I've got a big box of cassettes that I "intend" to do that with "in due course". Almost all of them are of BBC radio comedy shows that never get repeated.
I have a cassette player that I can connect to my USB socket as well as my mic socket and I once did a quick test to see that it all worked.
I wrote about it in my ditty Converting old tape cassettes to mp3 - TenForums and you'll also see several other good ideas in that thread. I would not expect Windows 11 to be any different, in this regard, from Windows 10.

I was beginning to think I should have waited and kept W10 instead
My main computers are all still on Windows 10. I bought an additional laptop so I could play around with Windows 11 & take part in ElevenForum discussions.
Despite having chosen almost the cheapest Windows 11 touchscreen computer I could find, it is quite good and within a couple of years it will replace both my main computer & my small 'travel' computer.

I have used Taskbar Toolbars as my main menu system for well over a decade and have therefore added ExplorerPatcher to my Windows 11 so I can continue to use them. If you aren't addicted to Taskbar Toolbars then you can ignore me but, if you are interested, I can provide useful links & explanations.

All the best,
Denis

Welcome to ElevenForum.

It's really worth making time to browse through the ElevenForum Tutorial index - there's a shortcut to it at the top of every ElevenForum page [within the Tutorials dropdown list].
- At the foot of the ElevenForum Tutorial index is a shortcut to download it as a spreadsheet.
- I download a new copy each month.
- By downloading it as a spreadsheet I can benefit from Excel's excellent filtering capabilities when I search for topics of interest.
- ElevenForum tutorials are also listed at Tutorials and there's a shortcut to that at the top of every page.

You can search ElevenForum using the search box in the top-right corner of all ElevenForum webpages or using Advanced Search - ElevenForum
- You can also search ElevenForum threads in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:elevenforum.com after your search term. For example,
Taskbar setup site:elevenforum.com
- [This is what the search box in the top-right corner of ElevenForum webpages does automatically]

For MSOffice problems search in and, if necessary, create threads in the TenForums MSOffice section [ElevenForum does not have one].

I have a love affair with AIMP (No I don’t care that it’s Russian) Apparently it can RIP CD’s but I have never had to use it.

However, it took me a very, very long time to rip all my CDS’s years ago and I haven’t bought any new ones. I can’t even remember what I used most to do so. Probably whatever free opensource (love opensource) software that was popular at the time all those years ago.
My obsession with owning a hard copy grew tired and I now just purchase FLAC file albums online.

GHOT’s recommendation is a good recommendation. I have in fact used this to rip some of my mums old CD’s for her that she kept after my father passed.

I'm having a bit of a problem with WMP Legacy, guys. I was finishing my Christmas Collection and when I inserted a cd, down at the bottom - about where you'd expect to see the play time remaining the machine started showing me black rectangles - only there, and my ripping went to poop. I started getting messages telling me that this cd could not be ripped and offered me close or web help. I did neither and just restarted my rig and it cleared up. That incident has happened 4 times and it took a restart to correct. The very FIRST time it happened, it just stopped the rip with 2 songs left - no explanation. Had to completely delete that album from my library and start over.

What do y'all think is going on - just no support for Legacy and that's what happens, or can it be fixed?

Thanks

Bill

Edited To Add: Thanks, Denis. No priority - enjoy your weekend! 😊👍

Bill,

Sorry, I've no idea. I've never had any problems ripping CDs.

I'll rip a CD in Windows 11 sometime next week and will post back if I experience any problems.

All the best,

No. After that much music I made sure to clean it using one of those cd's with the brushes and a drop of that liquid. It just works sometimes, like 20 cd's and then it starts its "spiel" like it's letting me know, "This is what happens when I get tired, brah! Deal with it!" 😉

Yes, I do still have it - and this is "funny": Some discs would give me that message and I have had 2 so far, that have worked on MP when they didn't on Legacy. Did someone in this thread mention a newer MP yet?
