A new report sheds some light on the recent discovery of a potential subscription-based Windows "12." Turns out, those bits are linked to one of Windows 11's SKUs, not the next-gen Windows.

Microsoft definitely has issues with recognizing other people's rights. If games were ported to Linux, I'd have dropped Windows a long time ago.

Okay, This is enough. Kubuntu for me it is. Hopefully I can just use a VM for the software that doesn't run on Linux. Even AMD stuff runs better in Linux than on Windows.

Just dare to do this Microsoft, and I just drop this lame excuse of an OS.

One can always try WINE which is an an attempt to run Windows executables on Linux - but with mixed and varying results. Windows VM's though run perfectly well on almost any sensible brand of linux.

If you want KUBUNTU - I'd suggest install Arch-linux instead (easy now with the arch-install script) or manjaro - then install xorg / wayland plasma and the base KDE desktop without all the extra added bloat from 100's of apps you might not want. Ensure though Network manager, nano, konsole - a terminal program kate (wysiswg text editor) dolphin (file manager / explorer) openssh-server and a web browser is installed - then add others at will

You can get a nice mean and lean install

e.g on a very old machine being used as a backup NAS server (and it still will run Windows 11 as a VM using KVM/QEMU).

I've had some luck with wine running on xubuntu. There are usually extra steps for each game. I've tried vBox but that doesn't work very well for 3D applications.

X-Plane 11 ported to Linux has a noticeably better framerate than in windows, all else being equal. I wish more developers would pay attention.

That's easy. Unlike the Super Walmart's, finding food items at my local Walmart is easy. The food section is small and in one area of the store. If they're a cookie they are in the cookie and chip aisle. If they're more like a doughnut they will be in the bread and cake aisle.

I know they have coconut cookies but in the pic they look more like a doughnut. Either way I'll see what they have.

Kubuntu looks pretty good, comes from Ubuntu, and there is Lubuntu and Xubuntu.

sadly, not everything runs as expected, there is pesky software like Clip Studio that simply refuses to work, so you need a VM for it and using Unity Mode for the VM for a seamless experience.
But hey, it works so, you can still switch to Linux. It even works better with the hardware I like the most (AMD) so... Microsoft is just giving me less reasons to stay in this lame excuse of an OS.

Thanks! For now, I'm just a filthy noob in Linux, that's why I can always just uninstall bloatware and have an UI from the begining. That's teh perk with someone that has been using Windows all teh time lol

Subscription of the whole shebang may not be attractive (at least not to me) but a phone-like 'OS + apps' model may well be attractive. You subscribe to the apps that you really need or better still, get a perpetual license for.

Aren't we all complaining about OS bloat? 99% of what we get in our Windows machines is only useful for others?

What MS tried to do with W8 is a phone-like GUI, but with all the Windows features which is mostly unused by the vast majority of users.

What I meant with a phone-like model in my previous post is 'OS + apps' which is not the same thing. You only pay and install what you actually use, OS-wise and app-wise, and have a lean machine at lower cost.

They tried to make it a one size fits all OS and it didn't work. Speaking for myself, I would like to be able to uninstall all of the included programs I don't use. As for buying apps, isn't that what the Microsoft store is for?
