POLL: Would you pay for a Windows 12 subscription?

To explore @glasskuter’s question; If Microsoft went to a subscription base with Windows Twelve, would you subscribe to still use Windows?

I have set it at 2 votes. I am hoping members will select a yes/no and also a preferred alternative.
Please feel free to rant on about your opinions, explain your alternative and maybe cry a little.

I voted NO.
But at the end of the day, when the crunch came, would I really abort Windows or would I comply for the sake of not going through a new learning process and setup? I have to be honest and say that I am really not sure.

I have become very used to using iDevices. I find I spend more time on my iPad 12.9” than my computer lately, and all but for images, it serves me well.

At first I was going to vote No. But now all I can say is I don't now. I'm very used to Windows for playing video games. Only time will tell......

The games aspect is a big one. But there is always PlayStation or Xbox. But Microsoft is screwing with the Xbox also, I believe they just added OneDrive. Probably not enough room to store one game? Then $$$. I‘m not sure.
Image editing/Design/Web Development, for those who use software interfaces is another aspect. I am speculating.

A Windows subscription base would affect many companies, if there was a mass exodus from Windows.

Already have Linux Mint on an USB SSD which I use occasionally. If windows wants subscription, I think I will switch over.
I don't play games, just use the internet for some streaming, and download some movies/TV series occasionally, for which Linux Mint is adequate. The only problem is if something doesn't work in Linux, it is hard to repair it, unlike windows !
In any case Windows 11 must have some years left ?

My first computer was the original IBM PC in 1981. That was 42 years ago! When I bought the IBM PC, I then had to decide if I was going to run CP/M-86, UCSD p-System, or a new product called IBM PC DOS, developed by a small company called Microsoft. The IBM store convinced me that IBM PC DOS was going to be the future, so that's what I went with. I also bought Microsoft Assembler and Microsoft BASIC, along with a bunch of other software. I walked out of the IBM store having spent more than $5,000 USD and that was back in 1981!

For many years, you bought a PC and then you bought the operating system to run on it, and the OS wasn't cheap. If the price had been a low subscription price, I'm sure many people would have opted for the subscription.

The software I use for my photography and to make my living trading all runs on Windows. I have a subscription for Microsoft 365 (Office) and I've used OneDrive since 2007. If Microsoft did go with a subscription, I would just add it to the subscriptions I already have, put it on autopay with the rest, and forget about it. I like Windows and I will continue using Windows.

I would stay on Win 11 or even roll back to Win 10. If push came to shove I have no problem saying the H*ll with MS and switching to Linux. I did it before and if needed I'll do it again.

Well I am very familiar with Macs and Linux, I have used them for a long time. So I think not. I voted MacOS, but it could equally be Linux. Both are free and will continue to be so.

I'd drop Windows in a heartbeat if they go subscription -- just like I did Quicken and 1Password.

I cannot answer this question unless I know the cost of the subscription. I pay for an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription and I have no qualms about that. Time and cost will tell.

Microsoft will probably not be charging a subscription service for Windows.
They have taken all of their ideas from Apple. Make the Windows OS free, but customers pay for a Retail Product/License Key.
OEM computer manufacturers pay a reduced rate for their Licenses paid in bulk and pass that along to the consumer.
If you buy a pre-built computer there will be NO separate fee to the consumer

If you want to buy a copy of Windows 12, you may need to join a subscription service, just like Office 365. You are still given the choice to buy Office 2021 or lease Office 365. Probably the same for Windows 12, but probably not.

Since I'm not planning on getting another PC for several more years, i just might keep using Windows 11 as long as MS keeps updating it. I might consider a Windows 12 subscription if it is part of Office365, but not as a separate subscription. If not Windows 11 or 12, the only option on my PCs would be to use Linux.

It would depend entirely on cost, smally monthly subs wouldn't be too bad
