Microsoft Photos App New Update

Strange , just installed over previous , it opens for two seconds and closes .........!! :(
Uninstall with "Geek Uninstaller", restart, install the new version. Geek is free and portable (about 6 MB), and removes Photos app registry footprints. Be sure "Fast Startup" isn't enabled on your Windows (in "Power Option").

A new "Slidshow" feature (with 24 music tracks 👍🏻) is also added to the new update (2023.11050.2013.0 = May 2023):

Best features in this new update (my personal opinion):
1. "webp" support, unbelievable!!! You can set Photos app as a default viewer for "webp" image formats. 👏🏻👌🏻
2. Auto Enhance is now available for use without having to install the 93MB add-on.
3. Fixed an issue where audio on video files is muted by default. The app now plays the audio by default and persists user settings across videos.
4. Spot Fix: Use the Spot Fix feature to remove blemishes or unwanted areas in your photo (like Photoshop 🥱).
5. Timeline Scrollbar.

All the new features (hide Filmstrip forever, new slideshow, iCloud/OneDrive integration, ... ) are available for stable channel users.

The stable channel version: "2023.11050.16005.0"

Bad news! Photos app doesn't support aWebP (animated WebP). You have to open aWebP with Edge!

Good news: Photos app supports loop browsing/viewing! But just in Full-screen mode!
By pressing the spacebar (in full-screen mode), you can browse all photos in the same folder infinitely.
A very useful feature (for me) that was existed since years ago in ACDSee (even in non-full-screen mode!).

I watched the video more than three times. I didn't realize what you did in part 2 (start at 00:14).
Part 1: Mouse hover and preview
Part 2: Full-screen and

Apology, just as a suggestion. Please make these types of videos with voice-over/narration and make them as "Shorts" (YoutTube Shorts). That would be great, especially for people like me with low IQ . Wondering why you didn't make it with your voice, your voice is ! I decided to do this (to make videos about Windows tips & tricks as "Shorts"), but my English is awful :woozy:!

I think they started diamond cutting! They debloated the "Photos app" by removing the add-on (it was about 90 MB):clap:...
I feel it has become a little bit faster (opening an image).

Best thing coming from this is the Retouch Feature has been added. The only reason I had not uninstalled Legacy Photos. Face recognition never worked like it's supposed to anyway.

Photos App Update 2023.11070.26007.0
I'm sorry but, I installed this version...,
It is terribly limited and painfully infantile as a viewer, editor or manager!
In-App purchases??? No!!!

C'mon MS, give your head a shake! There's way better stuff out there for free!

Best thing coming from this is the Retouch Feature has been added.
Apology, but I think it's for kids! You can't call it a retouch feature. I think they want to add more AI (retouch) features to the Photos app and make it commercial (not free).

The only reason I had not uninstalled Legacy Photos. Face recognition never worked like it's supposed to anyway.
I suggest you install the new version (not the Legacy version, it's absolute garbage)!
Face Recognition -> Google Picasa (Free, Portable, About 150 MB).
Google has a long lead in this matter. I mean nosy in identifying people in detail.

It is terribly limited and painfully infantile as a viewer, editor or manager!
I use it just as a (photo) viewer and sometimes as an editor (just for resizing and cropping, not retouching!). It's good at its job as a photo viewer, resizer, and cropper.
Best photo retouch app -> Lightroom (in my opinion -> Photoshop :smirk:)
Best photo manager app -> Picasa

In-App purchases??? No!!!
They mean:

s1.png

By clicking on it (Edit photos like a pro), Store offers some non-MS photo editor (Luminar AI :sneaky:, ACDSee , Corel PaintShop :look:). But soon you will see Microsoft AI-Powered (:woozy::yawn:) photo editor there (sure! you have to pay for it).
IMHO:
1. ClipChamp = An absolute clown
2. AI = worse than Covid.

C'mon MS, give your head a shake! There's way better stuff out there for free!
Microsoft doesn't have enough time to do that. Instead, I'll do it:

Best photo manager app -> Picasa

For In-depth editing, I use Affinity,
for viewing, annotating, simple editing - ShareX,
management - Picasa

For In-depth editing, I use Affinity,
I have heard a lot about it but never used it (Designer or Photo). I have nothing to say about the app. I know many users (Ai and Ps users) are switching from Illustrator and Photoshop to the Affinity ecosystem (based on graphic forums discussions). Ai and Ps have had many bugs in recent updates (I am a big fan of Adobe Illustrator). As I realized Affinity is the biggest Adobe competitor. But! I think Affinity vs Adobe is like Bruce Lee vs Tyson. Adobe will punch Affinity with a punch as they punched Figma (Microsoft's UI/UX Design Ecosystem).

for viewing, annotating, simple editing - ShareX,
I never used a screen capture app as a (photo) editor.

I run the Photographer's pack from adobe, as I am a quite serious photographer and use Lightroom [Classic] for my image management and RAW processing, with Photoshop as a main processing tool for more complex editing requirements [ I also have several other applications and Find On1 Photo Raw and it's suite of Plugins Useful, [Especially find the Sky swap useful ]

I, just for giggles, opened my main photo store into the latest windows Photo app, that was around 40 Minutes ago, it's currently around 24000 images loaded into the catalogue - so around half way

I think I'll be sticking with Adobe - and I too also use Bridge as a general Image browser especially for Stock images [these Mostly not my work]

I also have the three Affinity apps I like the Vector editor and the Desktop Publisher, though I do not use the photo 2 app much as I have Photoshop
