Hi all.

For many months now (possibly over 9 months), my NUMPAD 5 key is not recognized while I am logged in to Windows 11. Before I log in to Windows, though, my NUMPAD 5 key is recognized -- meaning, if 5 was part of my login PIN, the NUMPAD 5 key can be used to enter the "5" input.

This is the case with 3 keyboards:
  • 2 USB-connected keyboards; each with a built-in NUMPAD.
  • Windows' On Screen keyboard.

Early this morning, I chatted with Microsoft Support. The rep guided me through an "in place" Windows 11 upgrade. The upgrade was supposed to reset all of my Windows settings. Unfortunately, though, the issue persists after the "in place" upgrade was completed.

Windows Support ended at this point with advice to contact the PC manufacturer. That's a rabbit hole not worth falling into. haha. It's a custom-built rig.

I'm just looking 1) to see if anyone else has had the same experience, and 2) for ideas on what component (hardware or software) might need attention.
Something in the BIOS? A registry entry?

Thank you for any input!

The issue is very similar to the OP's and is almost 3 years old.
Nice catch.
You'd think it would be fixed by NVidia by now.

Hi & welcome,

A new standard, local user account did not experience the problem.

or just log in as Admin:

I now see the Administrator user on the login screen, but I haven't set a password. Is a password set within the BIOS?
Simply curious, as I may just re-hide the Admin account.

Thank you OAT!

NVIDIA probably doesn't think it's a bug. They should do a better job informing you that it's a built-in feature. If NVIDIA has time to scroll thru random "ads" while it's installing, they have time to make a Public Service Announcement.

So we know now that it is user bound. No need to use the admin account.
As discussed with @garlin , it's probably Nvidia Experience at startup.
Uninstall it or disable it; I have it removed on my system.

In order to get rid of Admin,
Code:
net user administrator /active:no

Please not there is no space before the 'no'

I changed the default key binding so that my NUMPAD 5 isn't intercepted.

I want to keep the GeForce Experience app for driver update notifications and the Optimal settings toggle available for each game.

If you do not have GeForce Experience installed, do you simply remind yourself to look for updates on NVIDIA's website?

It is 'religiously' reported on this very site. (y)
Remember the latest is not always better.
I think it's fair to say that NVidia has monthly releases.
