microtek 4900 scanner driver for W11

Windows 11 Pro 25H2

I have an old and excellent Microtek 4900 scanner that works fine when attached in my older laptop running earlier Windows. But when connected by usb to my W11 laptop, W11 cannot find the scanner. The software "Scanwizard 5" runs fine but W11 cannot find the scanner probably because W11 does not have the driver for it.

It remains an excellent scanner and software so I hate to give up on it. Has anyone been successful in getting W11 to see and use the Microtek 4900 scanner? How?

Did you try installing Scanwizard 9?

Scanner more than 20 years old?

The Microsoft Update catalog only offers drivers for XP.

You could also consider Vuescan, but it's not free. (It has a free trial, though.)

I do and it installs fine. But it says no scanner attached.
Tomorrow, as someone suggested, I will install Scanwizard 9 which is the version that works in W 11 and see if that finds the scanner.

The scanner is old but works very well.

Nothing worked for W11 recognizing that old scanner.

I only need to scan things once every few months, if that, so I will keep doing what I have been doing till now: use an older laptop running an earlier version of Windows. If i needed to scan things more often I would buy a new scanner but for my rare use it is more clutter and just not worth it.

It is a shame one could not just extract a W10 driver and use it in W11. Too bad.

The problem could be caused by Win 11 auto downloading drivers.
First uninstall the scanner,then in Terminal [admin ] run ---dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth----and when completed,run ---sfc /scannow ---until a clean report is given.
Shutdown then restart.
Go to Settings>System>About>Advanced System Settings>Hardware tab>Device Installation Settings And select NO.
See if that works by reinstalling the scanner.You can revert back to the default setting by cancelling NO.
