Motherboard Resources In Device Manager

I have 6 Motherboard Resources entries in Device Manager under System Devices. I have to enable "Show Hidden Devices" to see them.

The Hardware IDs are as follows.

ACPI\VEN_PNP&DEV_0C02
ACPI\PNP0C02
*PNP0C02

My motherboard is a GIGABYTE X299X DESIGNARE 10G (Rev. 1.0).
Does anyone else have these Motherboard Resources entries? Do I need a driver?

I don't have a Gigabyte board and this is just my opinion as I'm not a hardware guru, but most of the devices that show up under "system devices" get their drivers as part of the chipset package. If I didn't have a device flagged with an exclamation point, I wouldn't worry about it.

Interesting stuff posted above. I've done quite a bit of research about those entries, but none of my findings have given me any confidence in what I found, except that it's Intel.

The PNP0C02 device is
a standard ACPI identifier used for "Motherboard Resources," acting as a "catch-all" to reserve system address spaces that are not claimed by other specific device objects. It informs the operating system (OS) not to allocate these resources (like I/O ports or memory ranges) to other components.

Just to expand on this a tiny bit, the whole idea of these Motherboard Resources is to reserve address spaces or resources needed by various pieces of hardware. For example, maybe you have an I/O port that needs to reserve certain address spaces and you want to make sure that nothing else decides to use that space. That is the p[urpose of these entries. They are NOT drivers for any device.

Look at a device like your display adapter in device manager and you will see that it lists the resources needed by that device like this:

Those Motherboard Resources do the same thing without providing an actual device driver.

Just install latest Intel chipset drivers from Gigabyte's support site and you should be OK.

It is for PNP devices. Unlike non-PNP devices who get their resources allocated statically at boot, a PNP manager dynamically reserves requested resources for a PNP device when it is plugged in, and can re-balance the resources when necessary (resource conflicts). I believe that if a PNP device is unplugged, the resources remain reserved and show up in the device manager as hidden devices until it is plugged back in.

Blue text means there is some update. My experience is that updating the chipset drivers using Snappy or other driver tools can lead to incompatibilities or even BSOD. So I avoid it. Since I want total control over my drivers to maximize compatibility and performance, I usually download any drivers manually, I use driver tools only as a last resort to install drivers for obscure devices. I always install the missing drivers (green text) and avoid to update existing perfectly working drivers (blue text). In your case the green text is for some Bluetooth services and protocols. Again my experience says to avoid installing these. Once I tried to install drivers for all Bluetooth services and then I could not connect to my Bluetooth speaker or any other Bluetooth device because of some conflict between protocols. I had to delete all Bluetooth related devices in Device Manage and restart so Windows would restore the original Bluetooth drivers to fix it. So install any other missing driver (green text) but ignore Bluetooth devices. You won't see any improvement in performance if you install them and you risk malfunction of your Bluetooth receiver.

Thanks for your comments.

I tried to avoid turning this thread into a debate about driver updaters, but if you're careful, they can be beneficial. Snappy Driver Installer Origin only uses official drivers from DriverPack and has helped me many times. I can't remember a time when it has let me down. There are other good ones, but as usual, be selective when you use them.

Whatever you do, never use a driver tool to automatically install drivers on a tablet! You will lose touch and rotation and probably more features. No drivers can restore these functions except for installing the official chipset (aka platform) drivers from manufacturer. In some cases you might have to format and reinstall Windows! I have learned that the hard way...
