There are programs that will create a virtual optical drive. I use the program PowerISO.

In the following example I mount the ISO for Windows 10 on the virtual optical drive.

1. The virtual optical drive shows up as drive E:. Normally nothing is mounted on it.

2. To mount an ISO file
a) Right-click on the drive E:
b) Select PowerISO
c) Select Mount image to drive [E:] <No media>

3. Browse too and select ISO file. Select Open

4. The 4.45GB Windows 10 ISO is mount on the virtual optical drive E:

MisterEd, OP is wanting to do this and then physically remove the USB the ISO is on while still maintaining access and use of it. At least that is what I understand from reply. Not possible. There always has to be an accessible file available somewhere.

It gets frustrating when it is obvious that people either haven’t read the request or issue properly, haven’t read the thread wherever possible and in many cases repeat what’s already been given as a process (Although I see that as an endorsement). As I know you know.
But it’s an open forum so 🤷‍♂️ (especially forgive me with some of my dumb replies to an OP’s issues that I think are avenues to take. And they’re mounting :D )

You are correct, my brain was stuck on reading a certain way. There is still nothing like being physically present with the person and their devices when trying to help.

I like helping via remote access but with it comes great responsibility and sometimes risk, especially with people you don't know on a personal level.
