Solved Mouse and Keyboard drivers

The window below once showed me that I needed drivers for my Topping E30 II DAC Preamp Audio Decoder (no, this decoder is not a ring and not avaiable from Jonny Quest). Adding those drivers made that entry go away. What's left is what you see below. Now, everything is working fine. Out of an abundance of too-much-time-on-my-hands, are there drivers for these two devices?

If I'm not mistaken the drivers should be the basic drivers from MS.

What does the Device Manager show for these devices?

There may be more brands but the only brand of mice I've ever used that had a specialized driver (and software)was a Logitech mouse that could be programmed to perform special functions. Even then, I never used it and defaulted to the standard MS driver. As far as Logitech software, it's always been badly developed.

Markus' question is a good one, but I would like to take it one step further: What happens if you choose to show hidden devices in Device Manager? Is there a hidden KB and / or mouse shown when you expand the relevant sections?

What I'm getting at is simply this: The message says that the device may not be present. This could be as simple as a mouse / KB that was at one time connected but is simply not attached right now.

The keyboard was from a HP system ("HPQ"). Probably one of those wireless keyboard/mouse combos.

You can run DriverStore Explorer, and safely delete them. DriverStore won't allow you to remove any driver that's in active use (loaded in memory).

Thanks. I probably should have waited to experiment on this until I received your advice. Instead, I right-clicked on the aberrant mouse entry and chose Uninstall. After a reboot, I've lost the use of my mouse. The Start screen appears, but there is no response from my mouse. Once again, I'd be grateful for any advice you can offer. For what it’s worth, I do have a backup I can use if all else fails.

When you're on the lock screen remove the mouse's USB dongle or wired connection. Wait a few seconds and reconnect. See if that works.

Unless Windows Update has disabled, it should take a few minutes for Windows to search for a driver match for unknown USB devices. Especially for keyboards or mice. Disconnecting the device, waiting, then connecting it again will trigger this behavior.

Now my collection of hidden devices is one larger. Anyone anal enough (possibly like me) to try to cull this down, or would all the august crew of this starship just say "It works, Scotty. Warp 9"?

I don't know if it's worth it or not to you but to me, It bugs me when I see a device driver not working. I have a USB device that I get a warning about not being recognized every time I start my one desktop. This just recently started happening. It does it in Win24H2 and the Canary build. I haven't noticed any devices not working so I'm thinking it may be the USB connection to my battery backup. It's connected directly to the back of my computer and I have to pull my computer away from the wall to get to it. I'm going to wait until the clean dust out of my computer day to see if I can solve the problem.

I am with you on this one. So far, I have been lucky and through sheer persistence have never owned a machine where I could not resolve a driver issue - eventually.

For example, I have an ancient HP that used a sensor to park a HDD if it was in free fall to hopefully avoid a head crash into a platter. The software for that feature never worked (nor is it needed) since I switched to SSDs, but that one stupid error in Device Manager always drove me nuts. So, with hours of playing I finally figured out a way to hack it in.

Ahhh, a nice clean Device Manager. It warms the heart!

Your HP 840 is missing a touchpad driver (mouse), and what HP calls "HP Hotkeys support" (keyboard driver).

Confirm you have all the drivers listed on your laptop's HP drivers page. You weren't as anal as you explained before.
