Mouse freezes continually

Windows Version 24H2 (OS Build 26.100.6899

Anyone got an idea how I find what's stalling/freezing my mouse? It seems to have happened after the win 11 upgrade.
I have tried LatencyMon but it doesn't show anything.
When frozen if can quickly restore but sometimes takes several seconds.
It I change USB ports it's temporarily better. (Yes I have tried different mice)

Tried changing the mouse battery?

Try updating mouse device driver.

Try installing the newest version of GPU driver.

Execute Sfc /scannow command from admin Command Prompt.

Should have said it's a wired mouse.
Freebooter, that may have done it. No issues now for 2 hours. The mouse driver was the latest/right one for basic MS mouse and I couldn't find a graphics driver on the NVIDIA website. Everything except 'Series 10'. sfc /scannow did report Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them. I looked in CBS.log but couldn't find anything specific. But it's soooo much better, Here's hoping!

Here's some things that you may find useful...

I've seen similar problems with almost every Windows 11 PC I've set up. The problem is usually caused by windows turning off USB hubs to "save power", even while the device is actively being used. (Which has bricked countless external SSD enclosures and flash drives)

Open Device Manager from the start menu
Expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers"
Right click on each item, select "Properties and open the "Power Management" tab if it's shown
Uncheck the "Allow Computer To Turn Off This Device To Save Power" and click OK

arrgh problem has shown up again... @DJ I have unchecked all that were,,, about 6 of them. Thanks, will let you know results.

What other peripheral devices do you have plugged into your computer?

Scanner, printer, M2 drive caddy and a USB Hub. This has a number of external, HDDs connected but only power them on when they're used.
Could software like Apache or Filezilla be 'stealing' the mouse? I could try with them not running. But it's not that obvious e.g. right nos it's not happening (at least as much as it did) but it could kick in again. I almost expect it!

please try
open the device manager and find your mouse entry

right click that entry and click uninstall.

unplug/disconnect your mouse from the computer
then reattach/connect your mouse back to the computer

Windows will reinstall the required drivers
then see if there is any improvement with your mouse.

In device manager Mice and other pointing devices I'm showing 2 entries both "HID-compliant mouse"
Isn't this a bit odd ? There's only one mouse.
I disabled one and the mouse is still working. does this suggest windows was trying to control 2 mice ?
Is "HID-compliant mouse" the right driver? It's a Windows basic optical Mouse V2 Model 1113
Can I remove the disabled entry?

Yes and see if that works........

I haven't figured out how to remove it,. but since disabled the mouse has worked perfectly.
So I'll leave well enough alone.

I had thought this fixed, but it has come back worse than ever (after 2-3 days working perfectly)
Now the mouse pointer completely disappears, sometimes for up to 30 secs. It jumps all over, in and out of view and can appear anywhere. Totally impossible to control.
I did remove both mouse entries in Device Manager and rebooted. They restored (one is maybe the wireless keyboard? But no wireless Mouse in use.)
Eventually it'll "come right" until the next time.
I've applied all the suggestions here a couple of times.
Just to confirm it's a wired mouse and others do the same thing. But I don't notice any obvious problems with other USB devices.
Is there any kind of "advanced diagnostic" than might show what's happening?

is the wired mouse connected to a USB type 3 port (blue coloured tab)

if so do you have a USB type 2 port available (black coloured tab)
please plug the mouse into the USB type 2 port and see if there is any improvement.

Nvidia uses a unified graphics driver, which means there is not separate drivers between series of cards, In fact AMD does the same thing....One Download file to rule them all.

What kind of settings do you have in the mouse control panel, not the one in Window Settings but in Control Panel ~> Mouse?

I recall there being some sort of auto hide "feature" for your pointer, that may be only while you are watching full screen video that im thinking about.

I've swapped a few things around and have the mouse now in USB2 port. It's still playing up - exactly the same.

See if Reliability History has entries which might help.
To access it,start typing ---reliability --- in the Search box.

There wasn't anything Mouse relates, just some updates not starting.
Had an interesting
few hours with chatGPT and updated all sorts of things... but probel persists. But is variable, but can stil,s top you doiug aything cfor ages. lke right now I cannot fix my typos. mouse just will not fo where you want it to. o will awap in a new mothrboard and see if it's any better. (I do have a idenytical spare)

In my opinion, you have not proven the direction of your problem...whether this is hardware or software related. I don't see where you have done any troubleshooting to narrow that down. You have to eliminate things one at a time.

See if some other usb device is interfering. Unplug every other usb device you have and test with just a mouse and keyboard. If it starts happening, unplug the keyboard to see it ift stops. If it doesn't happen, plug each external device in one at a time, testing as you go until you narrow down which device might be interfering. If you are using an unpowered hub, I'd start there. You have entirely too many devices plugged in if your usb hub is not externally powered.
If you hub IS externally powered, test it's power supply. Those thing can easily go bad.
I'm betting it's either the hub not being able to handle the number of devices plugged into it OR it's one of the devices plugged into the hub.

I don't read whether or not you have checked for windows corruption.
.Open a command prompt as administrator and type dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
When complete restart. Then open command prompt as admin again and run sfc /scannow
Pay attention to the scan results to see if SFC found anything it could not repair

Perform a clean boot to eliminate software conflict causing the issue. If it doesn't happen in a clean boot, you have some software conflicting with Windows. You have to use process of elimination to find which one. Perform a Clean Boot in Windows 11 to Troubleshoot Software Conflicts Tutorial

See if it happens in safe boot. . Boot to Safe Mode in Windows 11

As a last resort you can absolutely prove whether or not it's a windows issue or a hardware issue by booting from a live Linux distro (try Mint or Ubuntu) If you encounter no issues, that eliminates it being a hardware issue and puts the problem into Windows. That be the case, clean install windows.
