Mouse freezes continually

There's a few interesting things there I will try, thanks. I do have a lot of USB devices but did test with them all disconnected. Likewise safe mode. The problem remained or reoccurred. The motherboard swap will be helpful.. but things are intermittent. It's come and gone several times. The last msg here I could hardly control the computer and took ages to type. At the moment it's working perfectly. So what happened? It was playing up like crazy so I changed the mouse and so far so good. But this mouse was previously a problem one - and had been swapped before. Changing ports can result in a brief improvement, but not always. Both USB2 and 3 are affected. I know it's going to fail again.. last time it took 3 days.
Reinstall windows - would hate to. Have only a Win 7 disk, the upgrades followed to 10 & 11, so how to replicate, get programs back up, activated etc,
I will try all your suggestions. The hub extender (it's powered only by it's own USB port) shouldn't be a culprit if disconnected, yes?). sfc did say it found and repaired something, but not what. That, and the other suggestions here seemed to inprove things but only up to a point. When it plays up it varies from annoying to inpossible. First indication the mouse just vanishes, then reappears somewhere else. Then it won't move and can't be controlled properly.

have you tried the mouse on another computer
just to eliminate the mouse itself.

you can download the Windows 11 ISO from Microsoft
create a bootable USB from the ISO using Rufus

just take a note of the product key that your system is using now.

best of luck Steve ..

I haven't put the mouse in a another comp but have tries 3 different ones in this, that all played up.
I've printed out the msg from glasskutter and plan to work through that. Maybe the Linux test will prove something.
Thanks for ISO and key info... still mousing here but occasional quick disappear but so far returns and otherwise ok.

Have now explored more avenues but still looking for a solution.

When it gets really bad (and it varies a lot) if I physically change the mouse for another one it may temporarily 'come right". But always - evebtually - plays up again. Things I've tried :

Removed all peripherals, USB devices including on board card reader and keyboard dongle.
Removed all drives except boot SSD
Tried both normal & safe modes.

Have updated all kinds of drivers any anything else suggested by chatGPT. Turned off various "allow Windows to control power etc.

No improvement.

Have run the dism corruption test suggested by glasskuter. And sfc /scannow. No issues were reported.

Have also swapped in another (same model) motherboard and tried both win 10 and win 11. Mouse played up in all cases.

Still to do the Linux test, but I have a question. When glasskuter says to perform a 'clean boot' is that a boot that doesn't run any software? How is that done please?

have all the meecez you tried all wireless? if this is a wireless problem, try wired and make sure you remove the dongle.
