Moving from Windows 10 to Windows 11

Agree, but MS doesn't tell you that it MIGHT be holding up one's 24H2 upgrade.. I found out DURING the manual upgrade I did..
Easy fix, but there was NO notification and it would have been nice to know in advance.

Keeping firmware, drivers, and Windows always up-to-date is generally recommended for system stability, reliability, and performance. The reason why there is no notification about this is simply because it is just another well-known fact. I have been vocal multiple times in the past about the importance of updating SSD firmware. I guess it's fair to say that some people just need to learn everything the hard way.

No harm to check if there is any newer firmware available...

Some steps that may increase the likelihood of a successful upgrade are:
a) run the upgrade healthcheck
b) uninstall non-Microsoft antivirus and firewall software
c) place the computer into clean boot
d) detach non Windows drives
e) detach non essential hardware

Also for unsupported computers, make sure you are disconnected from the internet the whole duration, disable all startup applications and non-Microsoft services before running Setup.

One problem and one question

Problem : I cloned my System SSD (1Tb) to a larger one (2 Tb)
I did some cleaning and applications updates and went to check Windows 10 updates.
I found a message that says (translation from my french sys tem) " Your computer does not have important quality
and security fixes"
" 2025-01 Cumulative update for Windows 10 Version 22H2 for x64 systems (KB5049981)"
"Status : Download - 0%"

It seems that some download happens and after a while I have "Status : Installation - 100%" (see attached file)

But nothing happens - How can I "force" the update to be applied ?

I want to keep the last level of Windows 10 as a backup before I move to Windows 11 ... and I want
to be sure I use the regular Windows Update process

Once I have my 2 Windows 10 with the "Win11_24H2_French_x64.iso" file, how should I proceed
Let assume that I'll have my two Windows SSD active as C: and D: ( C: being the "active" system)
if I click on Win11_24H2_French_x64.iso and select "Setup", which SSD should I update to
Windows 11 ? I want to keep all my applications across the update - Will the "active" system be
updated while performing ?

It's the first time I plan to do such an update and I'm afraid to loose my current Windows 10 and
be obliged to reinstall everything from scratch with Windows 11

I think I had that when doing an upgrade as well. Just install the update. It's something to do with a last thing for Windows 10 to allow Windows 11 to work I think.

I would disconnect the other disk, just in case, before upgrading to Windows 11.

Which "other disk" ? The one with the "active" system or the other ?

You leave the disk with the system you want to upgrade and you remove the other.

In my experience, Windows 10's Windows Update does occasionally miss making the final step from "Installation - 100%" to re-checking for updates and saying that "you are up to date". The update should be listed in Update History, confirming that it has been installed, but Windows Update may have got stuck in limbo. If that happens, restarting Windows will fix it. So can clicking on pause updates, then immediately resuming them again.

I'm currently "cleaning" my Windows 10 (removing all unused apps, cleaning registry, updating drivers,...)
