Solved My computer freeze after upgrading to Win 11 24h2.

I have an unsupported computer (see comp specs)
My computer began to freeze after upgrading to Win 11 24h2. It's not a BSOD
Never happen under Win 7 or Win 10 or even Win 11 23h2.
I can work on it all day without a freeze. Today it froze on startup and when launching an application.

Normally it freeze when opening a program or an application like Explorer.
Strange is that everything is frozen but the mouse but it does nothing. Keyboard does nothing. Can't launch task manager. I see that the clock is also frozen.
Sometimes a small box appears with the title Microsoft Windows, nothing more.
Only way is a hardware reset.

Any suggestions?

The Windows Error Reporting (WER) were missing (cleaned).


There were 16 - 18 unexpected shutdowns and restarts recorded during the past 30 days (since the upgrade).


Please swap test the PSU.



If there are continued problems during / after swap testing then:

a) make sure WER are not cleaned

b) move the page file from D: to C:

c) turn off automatic restart so that it's less likely to miss unexpected shutdowns and restarts

on 2 cleans installs of Win 11 24H2 i have had to run
CHKDSK
DISM scan health
DISM repair health
and SFC
to get everything working right.

CHKDSK

DISM

SFC
open a command prompt as ADMIN and write
sfc /scannow
press enter and wait for it to complete.

The computer isn't doing an auto restart. When it freeze I have to do a hardware reset or press the start button till it shuts down.
Where do I turn off automatic restart?

I have, on same computer, a Linux drive and a Win 7 drive. Both works without issues.
Today I was watching a Youtube vídeo and suddenly it began to play in slow motion. It was the problem striking again. Had to reset and run check disk on all drives.

1) I ran sfc
C:\Windows\System32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
For online repairs, details are included in the CBS log file located at
windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For offline
repairs, details are included in the log file provided by the /OFFLOGFILE flag.

2) Then
C:\Windows\System32>Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

4) Ran sfc again

Is there a new Win 11 24h2 than Win 11 24h2 26100.2161 so I can try a repair install?

may i ask did you do a restart using CHKDSK then try the above please.

Before I did the sfc and dism cmd's I did an offline check disk on all drives. No problem were found.
After a hardware reset or shut down I always do an offline check disk on all drives.

Have you run it just the once?
Sometimes you have to run this command a few times with restarts in-between.
I would not expect to have to run it more than 3x though.

Yes I did with the same results: Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.

i would reluctantly suggest a recovery reinstall keeping all your files and folders but last time i tried that with 24H2 on two computers they failed both times and i had to do clean installs on both systems.

so if everything else has failed to cure the problem i would suggest
back up your data and reinstall clean but ensure you delete and re-format the partitions as well.
kinda start off with a clean sheet. this 24H2 is causing some people no end of problems.

I gave up.
Had 3 freezes only during the afternoon so I reinstalled Win 11 23h2 from a drive image I did when upgrading to win 11 24h2.

I'm running on a clean install of 24H2, and my computer was freezing once a day. Today while watching a good crime video on Youtube, at 30 minutes into the video my computer froze, had to shut down manually.

Ran Ashampo Winoptimizer after the freeze and removed 369 registries , and cleaned up a few other things too. So now we'll see if it freezes anymore.

With Win 11 24h2 I was having some issues with my Kirby alarm and I don't have with Win 11 23h2.
I'll wait some months to see if Microsoft cleans all bugs on Win 11 24h2 and I'll try it again.
