I am sharing my laptop with my little Bro.
He wants to learn Linux. I installed WSL and Ubuntu. Worked for a couple of weeks but now he gets the below.
As usual, this error is pretty common and from posts this is what I have done but to no avail.

Reset Winsock
Stop or Restart Hyper-v --> I got confused here as many services with Hyper-V. I restarted HV Host service. I don't know if this is the correct one to restart.

As usual, any help is much appreciated.

The service has not been started.

[process exited with code 4294967295 (0xffffffff)]

I also took those steps below but its still a no go.

Code:
DISM /online /disable-feature /featurename:VirtualMachinePlatform /norestart
Code:
DISM /online /disable-feature /featurename:Microsoft-Windows-Subsystem-Linux /norestart
Restart the computer.
Code:
DISM /online /enable-feature /featurename:VirtualMachinePlatform /norestart
Code:
DISM /online /enable-feature /featurename:Microsoft-Windows-Subsystem-Lin

The error I have explained here --> error code 4294967295

My little Bro had Ubuntu installed for the past month and now

wsl -l -v
Windows Subsystem for Linux has no installed distributions.

Update..
Issue is sorted. Make sure dnscache service is up and running.
Could anyone explain me why dnscache stops WSL from working properly ?
And why dnscache is needed in the first place since DNS resolution is (from my understanding) done at ISP level ?

You, sir, are a genius!

I've been having the exact same issue for 2 days now and couldn't find any working solutions on the WSL github issues (after reading through dozens of comments there) or on any other google search results. I'm not even sure how I ended up here but it was only after I read this that I remembered that I had inadvertently pressed the "turn off DNS cache" on the nordvpn app and when I went to check: BUM! It was down. I had to go through some hoops to start it again but once I did, wsl was finally working again.

I also have no idea why WSL would just explode if you're not using the windows dns cache or why they couldn't come up with a more descriptive error message, it is just really unnecessarily annoying.

Anyways, thank you so much for sharing this!
