Solved My Mouse Pointer Speed always Changes!

Windows 11 Pro 23H2
I have my mouse speed set to 2 which is comfortable for me. But after a restart or just adjusting an app like my head set it jump's to 10! And so I have to manually set it back it 2. This is driving me nut having to do this all the time. I fixed this a number of years back like 6 years but I can't remember what I did to fix it.

HELP!! ​

Which Zelotes mouse is it? It doesn’t have a DPI speed button set on it that you’re accidentally pressing does it? I ask because I am always accidentally pressing mine on my Logitech.

Yes it has but it dose nothing when hitting it. It remains at 2.

Does Windows 11 still have a Devices Troubleshooter? I am not at my PC ATM
Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters. Run the "Hardware and Devices" troubleshooter. Just a thought.

One of the latest updates has been causing grief for a lot of users for a wide range of strange issues. Microsoft apparently agreed that it was an issue. I can’t remember which Update. I’ll have a look.

They may of removed it, I read that they were removing some or all troubleshooters?

Do you have Windows Update KB5034848 do you know? I suppose it depends on for how long you have had this problem resurface if that update may of caused anything.

Yeah I don’t see it in there. Perhaps it was only for 23H2, I see you’re still on 22H2

Alright, I had X-Mouse Button Control installed. I uninstalled it and everything is fine... Did a number of restarts and app changes. I've used this app a long time and never had issues. So what has changed?

Yes so do I. It seems to be taking a long time to release that beta as a stable build. At worst I would backup/image my PC if I was ever going to try it, but I don’t see any complaints, not that I looked very hard.

I've started having the same problem on my Windows 11 computers.

I like to have my mouse pointer speed on 18 in Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Mouse settings, or two notches below maximum in Control Panel > Mouse > Pointer Options. But it keeps reverting to maximum speed of 20.

I have Razer Viper and Razer DeathAdder Essential mice.

The strange thing is, the tutorial by Brink linked below explains how to change the speed in the registry, but it appears that Windows is ignoring this registry string. As you can see, MouseSensitivity is set to 18, but in mouse settings it has reverted back to 20.

Edit: I just changed the MouseSensitivity string to 16, and it made no difference to the mouse pointer speed and the mouse pointer speed settings in the Control Panel and Windows settings. They are still on maximum 20.
