Need AntiVirus Help

Install AVIRA antivirus program, that program does not write to disk while others slow down the computer, I have had it since 2000 and I am satisfied with it and it agrees well with Windows Defender.

Hi there, it's good to see so many helpful comments here and a lot for you to wade through I'm sure. ...snip...
Yes, agreed. I'll be re-reading this thread another time or three.

I uninstalled McAfee but it left some kind of free web protection package behind. I Googled it and discovered it keeps a log on their database 'back home' of everything you do online, 'for your protection'. In a day where everyone is selling a VPN service, they want to track you? That just seems funny to me. So that went out the window, too.

I should have been more scientific, but I noticed before the uninstall I was using 4.9GB of RAM with Task Manager and Firerfox open. After uninstall of both and only Task Manager open, i was down to 3.9GB RAM usage. Wow.

Well hell, been happily using that little AV for years. Says support will stop June 30th 2022 so I guess I have a little time to decide on other options. Maybe I'll just live with Windows Defender, I keep hearing it's improving all the time and does a decent job. I guess TDKMate and I are both looking for opinions and thoughts now lol.
Heres a great site for Premium/Paid Software for free..these are offers from the companies themselves..

Norton is currently £34.99 for the first year. I never pay more than that every year and sometimes a bit less. They usually offer you a discount to renew if you leave it till a couple of weeks before it expires. And you can get it for less than £20 on Amazon usually.

Hi there
spend that 40 EUR (I think that's roughly what the sterling equiv is) on some decent Beer etc instead.

There's 100% no reason to install ANY A/V software other than the basic supplied WD on HOME type computers these days -- WD is perfectly good enough --the security algorithms are based on the Military grade approved security that Ms uses on its AZURE cloud services.

Home users are much more likely by around to 1,000,000 to 1 to get scammed than be a victim of malware these days. If supplying commercial systems, web servers, e-commerce etc then that's a different issue but for basic HOME based systems -- WD is all you need these days.

Cheers
jimbo

You need to use the removal tool to uninstall it completely. Mc Afee web page also has the tool to download but I couldn't get their web page to open . But you can also download it here. :)
