Solved Need help Lenovo won't boot up

I assume that the flash drive that you are using is 8GB, is that correct? If that is correct, then you want to enter 2 to select that disk.

FreeBooter, we are preparing a bootable flash drive right now to install Windows. It's modified with an answer file. I can explain in a little more detail my logic in a little while.

YES! We are in good shape.

Okay, the next step is to boot the problem computer from that flash drive.

Do you know how to boot that computer from a flash drive?

If not, maybe someone here who is familiar with Lenovo systems could comment. As an example, on my ASUS motherboard based system, I have to press F8 during boot, and then it will display a list of bootable devices from which I can select the flash drive.

If you do already know how to boot from it, please do so now. That will start Windows 11 setup, but it will stop at the point where it asks what drive to install Windows to. At that point please do two things for me:

1) Snap a picture of that screen and post it here.

2) Try moving your mouse and seeing if the mouse pointer moves. In addition, try using the up and down arrow keys and the TAB key to see if the keyboard is working on this screen.

Now what ?? I tried to format it but wouldn't let me ?

Should i just order a disk from Lenovo to reboot the system ??

I plugged the flash drive into the Lenovo and it said "Windows could not collect information for [OSimage] Since the specified image file [X:\source\install.wim] does not exist .

No you didn't ask me to format, when i pushed the enter key while i was in command prompt that popped up !!

I think you guys trying to create bootable USB, but size of the Windows 11 is larger than 4 GB if this is the case then follow below guide.


Latest versions of Windows 11 ISO contains WIM file that is big for FAT32 file system.

Files larger than 4GB can NOT be stored on a FAT32 partition. This is due to FAT32 limitation.

If you want to boot under UEFI firmware by utilizing NTFS file system you might fail, as not all UEFI systems are able to boot from external boot media using NTFS.

This tutorial will show you how to extract the needed edition from the original install.wim to get a smaller install.wim file.


1 Extract the required install.wim out of the ISO file or mount the ISO file.

2 Open the Command Prompt by typing cmd.exe into Start Menu, right-click on Cmd.exe, and open it as an administrator.

3 Execute the following DISM command with the correct path to the install.wim to get the index that represents needed Windows edition:


The output might look like the following:


4 Execute following command to create a "Mount" folder at root of C: partition.


5 Extract the right index (6 in this case as I want to install Windows 10 Pro edition) into a new WIM file via DISM command:




Replace the "E:\sources\install.wim" path with correct path to the install.wim file.

It reduced the install.wim file size to only 3.80 GB which will now fits within the file size limitation of FAT32.

6. Copy newly created install.wim file stored within C:\Mount folder onto an already prepared USB stick with all the other needed files from the original ISO.

Oh, so that is on the Lenovo.

So I'm missing something. I need some context for that last screenshot. Was that after you booted from the flash drive? Apologies, I'm just missing the context of what I am looking at.

If you booted from the flash drive, what did you see? Did you get a screen that looks something like this?

FreeBooter, I don't care if the file is bigger than 4GB!!!! I have that covered.

He now has a bootable flash drive that will work, guaranteed.

You have still failed to answer one simple question (or I missed the answer):
In which USB port is your KB connected? You need to plug it into port 3 or 4, which are located right beside the LAN port.

Before we give up, please just address the question from SlicEnDicE. If that works it may make everything we have been doing obsolete and solve issues for you.

If it was me, I would go ahead and make a new install disk and try again.

We should have a good boot disk now. I'm just not clear on whether flashh4 has even tried booting from it yet.

I wish I knew because we've made good progress so far.
