Need To Perform A Repair Install On My Older Unsupported HP Desktop ?

Hi,
On HP 6000 SFF Desktop (Which Is A Unsupported PC) I'm currently running Windows 11 Pro 64-Bit edition, Version 22H2, OS Build 22621.1413 . I'm thinking that I originally used Rufus 3.21 to install the operating software on my computer, my current issue is the amount of time that my computer takes to restart after installing windows updates. I do in fact realize that I'm actually lucky to be able to run windows 11 pro on this older model desktop anyway, I don't know if by performing a repair install that would actually fix the restarting issue or not, on the computer in question it doesn't have a ssd installed on it because do to the age of the computer I don't see the need to do so. It would be so nice to be able to perform a repair install without losing any of my installed applications but I don't think that's possible in my particular case. I did in fact read all of the comments in this tutorial: Repair Install Windows 11 with an In-place Upgrade Tutorial Thanks in advance for any help that might be provided to me, if I could just get my computer to restart like it used to once upon a time I'd be very happy.

Even though Win-11 seems to be more efficient than previous versions of Windows, It's also Bigger. And Bigger can mean slower.
So an SSD and max ram can make it hum right along. I too have Win-11 running on an HP Slimline desktop PC, and it runs quite well.
So, if you can, max out the ram and add a little SSD and you should have a nice running little PC.

There are also, several tweaks that were originally written for earlier OS's, that can really improve the performance of Win-11.
If you run "MSCONFIG" from the RUN box, under the Boot tab, change the delay time from 30 seconds to just three seconds. That can speed up the boot time by 27 sec's. Remember to "Apply" the change!

If your comouter is using a HDD then I agree with @TechnoMage2021 about upgrading to a SSD. I had a laptop that was very slow to boot up. Being a laptop the job was a pain but I upgraded it from the HDD to an SSD and I was shocked at how much faster it now is. I did the same with the AIO my wife use to have.

Before I upgraded my old pc, I also wondered if buying an ssd was worth it? Then I had the thought that when the day comes that I have to replace the pc with a “Windows 11 compatible” one, I can always use the ssd internally or externally. I picked one up on sale on Amazon, and it made a huge difference.

Thanks so much for your response, and of course not trying to be rude in anyway I'm already aware of that particular setting, but I don't think it has anything to with the issue I first posted about, but then again I could be totally incorrect.

I use only sata ssd's but they can only do so much before cpu/ amount of memory kick in as needing more especially cpu threads and frequency goes.

All mine are upgrades from 10 I never clean installed any of them refresh install so besides a couple apps needing to be fixed everything is good.
Things you can try to in cmd as admin

The poster's question is how to do a repair install on unsupported hardware.
A repair install is the exact same thing as an upgrade.
I create my Windows 11 install media using Rufus setting its options to bypass tpm and cpu requirements.
This media can be used for a clean install or repair install.
For repair install, mount the usb drive in explorer, click on setup and away you go.

If you're still using a old hard drive you're mistaken
Sata ssd will make a large difference like night and day difference

Personal file storage can still be on hdd so even a 250gb ssd can really help.

I really do appreciate & am grateful for all of the replies that I've received, yet again I'm so very grateful that this wonderful forum exists. I'm typing this comment on my lenovo laptop that is newer than the desktop that I first posted about, it does in fact have a ssd installed in it and for sure it does make a big difference as far as speed goes. Yeah sata ssd's are dirt cheap now days
1tb WD blue ssd for like 55.us

You can go at Settings, Windows Update, Advanced Settings and enable to be notified when a restart is needed. So you may postpone it and do it at the night when you don't use the computer, so you don't mind about the time it takes to complete. You can also change working hours, I have set mine 8:00-0:00 to make sure it never happens during the day. Also I agree that an SSD makes a huge difference, much more than doubling the RAM. If you can do both, even better.

Further tip to speedup your computer, disable all visual effects such as transparency, animations and fades. Go at Settings, Accessibility, Visual Effects and disable Transparency and Fades. Next go to Settings, System, Info, Advanced system settings. Go to Performance tab and uncheck animations and other useless effects. The speed difference is very noticeable. Been there done that. Some would also suggest to remove wallpaper and set a solid color, but I think this is too much.
