Solved Network icon has gone


Well I *almost* solved it. There's another post on this forum from someone with the same problem. They checked the Network List Service was running, I changed the setting to Automatic start, restarted Explorer and the network icon reappeared...

..but disappeared again after a reboot, even though Network List service was running.

Oh well I'll try an in-place repair.

@Hollywood yes they only work with the Windows 10 taskbar, I also have that thanks to ExplorerPatcher has @BrianInEngland thought of using one of those I wonder as Winaero Tweaker is also very good

Fixed it and found what caused it. I did an in-place upgrade, the icon was back. Then I went through some of the Services to disable what I didn't need (or thought I didn't). When I disabled Radio Management Service the icon disappeared, it was back when I restarted the service.

Strange that the Radio service affects the icon for Ethernet but there we are. For future reference!

We've all did something like that before. As long as you have your data backed up, the worst that could happen from tinkering would be that you had to reload Windows. At least you are trying to get your system the way you want it and learning too. Feels good when you perest and finally solve your issue. :) Thanks for letting us know.

I like things to be 'right' with my PC, it was a minor bug but it was irritating me. If I'd known that before running the installer I wouldn't have had to do it. At least on a gen 4 NVME SSD it only takes 20 minutes!

Absolutely! I did disable the ones related to VR/Spatial perception and Smart card as I never use them. Most of the services are Manual anyway so not running

I'm not sure why my WIRED internet shows with the name of my WIFI network but at least the icon works now!

I guess it's just the name the router sends out to identify itself, even with ethernet connection. It's always been like that. If I hover over the taskbar Network icon the name is shown as my 5GHz WiFi network name

Thank you so much, enabling the Radio Management Service worked for me I have been searching a solution for so long... You are my hero.

Just registered here to say THANK YOU.
Since month i'm trying from time to time to solve the missing network icon missing. Not a big deal, everything is working fine, especially network, just not having the icône anymore was annoying me... Like you i did deactivated some services, like a lot of them, to keep the very very low connection i use at work (not for working :p ) clean and usable. Like you i didn't know the radio service was related at all with the network icone... After many unfructuous google search fixes, now i can sleep with my network icone in its place.
