New laptop. Network asks for credentials. User name and password.

This is my home network with only me an 3 computers on it. The other two show up in the new laptop network. But clicking on them request the id and password. I never enter the requested credentials. I did switch off Password sharing. What else should I do?

As far as I understand it (and have done so to access my wifes laptop and sons computer) you should only have to enter their credentials once. If you want to be able to have access, that is what you need to do.

If you want to create a quick access method to their shared folders, create an shortcut on your desktop:

\\COMPUTERNAME

Is one way to do it.

Whether you have password protected sharing turned on or off makes no difference. To connect to another PC your PC has to supply an account name and password that exists on the PC you are connecting to.

Initially your PC will try to connect using the username and password that you are signed into your PC with. If an account with the same name/password exists on the other PC you'll connect. If it doesn't, or has the same name but a different password, you'll be asked to provide credentials, these must be an account and password that exists on the other PC. Tick the box to Remember my credentials and you'll never be asked again, your PC will always connect to that PC using the saved credentials.

If you wish to delete or modify a credential, or to add a credential for a PC before you connect to it, then use the Credentials Manager.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

Ok. So The other machines cannot see the new Laptop on the network, but it can see and access the other two.

New LAPTOP can see and access the DESKTOP and SURFACE.
DESKTOP can see and access the SURFACE but does not see the LAPTOP
SURFACE can see and access the DESKTOP but does not see the LAPTOP

It seems to me that I need to switch something on in the New LAPTOP?
