New shutdown button

Is there a way to add another shutdown link or button in a convenient place? The location of the current one bugs the heck out of me. On the left side of the menu you can opt to sign out but not to shutdown. Only over on the right side of the menu can you shut down.

I don't really want to use add ons for start menu. I tried one online tutorial (Lifewire maybe?) for adding a shutdown button to the screen but it looked bad and didn't work.

You can create a shortcut as above or right click the start icon,

Thanks I forgot about right click. I did the desktop shortcut again and pinned it to the taskbar and ok it works but the icon still looks rubbish and blurry. And no menu option - a bit basic. In future I'll remember to right click. Thanks.

So now I can't delete the icon. I could only unpin it from taskbar. So where is it now?!

Whenever you "unpin" an icon from the Taskbar... it's gone for good.

You have to recreate the icon again.

Cheers. Not something I've done before. But honestly what is the point of creating an icon if it looks like complete rubbish.

If you create the icon on your desktop, you can change the icon at that time.
Once it's pinned, you can no longer change it.

on my laptop, I've added my own shortcut at the desktop to shut it down. I forgot the reason why I did this but still keeping it there. :)

Right-click anywhere on the desktop>>>New>>>Shortcut, and then copy-paste this (no quotation): "shutdown.exe /s /t 00"
Then change the icon.

I'm on Win 10 at the moment. Maybe that makes a difference?

This one is all the way at the end of the shell32.dll collection.

You can also create your own icon.
They have free online icon creators. And you can use Paint 3D also.

Note: I'm not on a laptop. These pics are from a 30" monitor 2560 x 1600, 10 bit color

$1100 monitors make nice pics. ^^

I am on W11. Tried to pin it also to taskbar and looks fine.. or is it blurry? :)

Maybe enlarged? But the icon isn't very sharp. Not as bad as that blue round one above though.

Think I'll go with Ghot's suggestion to try and make an icon

Or just right click on start button.

It might also be the Taskbar size that's affecting how the icons look.

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

Set... TaskbarSi ...to...
1=small
2=medium
3=large

Mine is set to "small". But I don't really "read" the icons... I just memorized them.
I even have the Taskbar icons in the same order and places on Win 10 and Win 11.
So I don't really have to "see" them.

Make sure your custom icon is dynamic, multi-layered, or it will look terrible in different environments...

Surprises me that native red one looks blurry as it is dynamic!

Also, my Windows scaling is at the default 100%.
If you have the scaling set higher... things will be blurrier.

Simulated scaling with approx. percentages.
And unlike Windows scaling, these were resized by bi-cubic resample, which tries to preserve the clarity.
In real Windows scaling the magnified images would be not as sharp.
