New Version of ExplorerPatcher


So...Installed KB5026446 Update Preview on 3 PCs. Each one during the reboot process for the update gave me a black screen. I used ctrl+alt+del and used the option to reboot and everything is fine. Just mentioning this because all 3 PCs have ExplorerPatcher installed and it MIGHT be something to look into for the next release.

Yes, I saw the black screen too. It was loading symbols or something. After it was finished, everything is back to normal.

I know this has been asked before, but it's been such a moving target and this thread is so big, I can't seem to figure out if there is any workaround or fix for finding a way to pin UWP apps to a Windows 10 style start menu?

I'm not sure how to do it. I use Open Shell to get the Windows 7 start button and start menu. If I want a traditional application or a UWP at the start menu I right-click on it from the list and select Pin to start menu. I don't know if that works without Open Shell.

I'm so glad that the latest version of explorer patcher seems to be functioning properly with my current build of windows ( Windows 11 Pro Insider Preview, Version 22H2, O.S. Build 23486.1000 ).

Today I installed some updates I had postponed for a few days and reached build 22621.1928. Upon restart I could not access Windows Settings. Clicking directly on the Settings icon or right-clicking on This PC and selecting Properties or right-clicking on the desktop and selecting Personalization caused File Explorer to crash and restart. Any attempt to open any page of Settings made File Explorer to crash. I don't know if Explorer Patcher was the culprit, as I already had the latest version installed. I downloaded latest Explorer Patcher and reinstalled just in case, but didn't change anything. Fortunately this was a temporary bug. After I manually restarted my computer once more the bug fixed. I just wanted to share this so if anyone else has the same symptoms, don't panic, just restart your computer once again.

I had something similar but not as bad, it's usually caused by EP not downloading the asseset it needs until you restart the PC, doesn't always happen but a restart usually fixes it.

Yes, I guess so. Obviously reinstalling Explorer Patcher doesn't work since it doesn't download and install the necessary symbols. After restart Explorer Patcher checks for new symbols, downloads and installs them fixing the issue.

Yes, it works in all official release builds of Windows 11. Just make sure it is updated and you have restarted to download the latest symbols.

Well if you go to change the explorer to WiN10 you'll have to sign out of your account at least on my computer but I tried crl alt delete upon "Restart" on explorer but the UI Goes blank and not visible so I have to shutdown and sign in but all is OK afterwards

hit ep.exe and waited, then desktop came back up and I panicked - no taskbar. after about 15 seconds it came up.

Just installed all updates on my hybrid laptop/tablet Fujitsu Stylistic Q702 up to build 22621.1928 Same issue here, trying to open any page of Settings made File Explorer crash. After restarting everything is OK.

i have tried relentlessly to fix this bug ive been having yet it hasnt worked. for context, ive been using EP for 5 months atp.
it was i think last week that i started after the latest update to the WIN11 dev insider preview and i noticed but every 5 min or so, EP would restart. this wasnt as bad then so i ignored it, but slowly it got really buggy and atm its too buggy. im on windows 11 OS build 10.0.23493.1000 with EP version 22622.1555.55.2 and ive reinstalled nad restarted multiple times and it always returns after 5 hrs from a restart. please help.

EP is not tested on dev insider preview builds of Win 11, as EP relies on the symbols that it downloads automatically from Microsoft if you have ticked the option to Enable symbols download (in the Advanced section of the EP settings window) and Microsoft does not publish symbols for these builds. So, you need to get on the production channel of Win 11, grab the latest pre-release build of EP and avoid the kind of 3rd party AV software that is known to interfere with EP ability to download the symbols or etc..
