New Version of ExplorerPatcher


I hadn't noticed this issue (task view, aka Aero Peek). I haven't checked, but maybe you can force it enabled with Winaero Tweaker.

That does sound like a pain. Task view works fine for me with Win10 task bar, which for me is the most important benefit of EP. But I don't use multiple desktops.

I'm wondering, is there anything else, like enable symbols download in the advanced section of E.P. that I wrote about six days ago, that needs to be enabled or disabled, that might solve some problems I and/or others have noticed. For instance, LenB wrote that with the latest version of E.P. he can pin the calculator and snipping tool to the start menu now, but I still cannot. I wonder if this, and problem with task menu and seeing virtual desktops not working unless not set to use Windows 11 taskbar without toolbars instead of Windows 10 taskbar with toolbars, could be do to something else in my E.P. settings needing to be adjusted like my discovery with enable symbols download?

On pinning to Start, what works is drag and drop. Right click + Pin to Start doesn't always work. In addition, to unpin an item from the Win10 Start Menu, you have to drag it off the menu until it becomes part of a group, and then delete the group. The developer is aware of the issue; on EP's opening page, if you click on the line near the bottom of the page ("IMPORTANT MUST READ...), it links to a web page that discusses the issue and workarounds. On your other nuisance issue, you could try posting on the EP discussion site at valinet/ExplorerPatcher · Discussions If that doesn't work, the developer's email address is listed on the About page in EP. There are no guarantees for tech support on a free product, but maybe he can help.

I have a Logitech G910 keyboard that has a volume control which when ever you adjust the volume usually pops up in the bottom middle of the screen just above the Taskbar , although it still alters the volume the pop doesn't appear. I only use EP for the W10 Taskbar and Toolbars.
This isn't a major problem just an inconvenience and has happened before and usually gets corrected with the next update but I was wondering if anyone else has this problem.

I am now at my father's computer with latest updates and latest Explorer Patcher and the task view (aka Aero Peek), works fine. In mine doesn't, but I will check the visual effects. Maybe the relevant box is unchecked in Settings -> System -> Info -> Advanced system settings, Performance.

I didn't touch anything in my main system (see 2nd PC specs) and a couple of restarts later the issue fixed. Now task view (aka Aero Peek) works fine. If I hover the mouse on a minimized application at the taskbar, I see a small thumbnail with the current status.

Task View and Aero Peek are two completely different features.

Aero Peek shows thumbnail previews of open windows (minimized or not) that belong to the icon of an opened app when your mouse is hovering on that particular icon, and also shows desktop preview when your mouse is hovering on the Show Desktop button (that's at the far end of the taskbar in the corner of the screen─and that you can disable in the System tray section of ExplorerPatcher settings window panel although it is enabled by default).

Whereas Task View is a menu screen that shows open windows that either belong to the Desktop or belong to the Virtual Desktop that you select (by moving with your arrow keys or mouse, the currently active Virtual Desktop having been already selected by default) from the bottom section of this screen where Multiple Virtual Desktops are shown. This screen, or feature can─besides using the Win + Tab keyboard shortcut─also be accessed either via the Task View button (if this button hasn't been hidden from the taskbar) or via a command:
explorer.exe shell:::{3080F90E-D7AD-11D9-BD98-0000947B0257}.
With the Windows 10 taskbar in ExplorerPatcher on Windows 11, this screen just never appears. That is, even though the keyboard shortcuts that I mentioned in this post still work. With the Windows 11 taskbar if ExplorerPatcher has been installed, right-clicking on the taskbar crashes the explorer.exe immediately within the next moment.

The taskbar had crashed on me a couple of times, but as long as I restart and Explorer Patcher updates the symbols, it fixes.

The taskbar had crashed on me a couple of times, but as long as I restart and Explorer Patcher updates the symbols, it fixes.

I don't think I understand what you mean. Does Win + Tab work on your dad's PC on latest Windows 11 with the Windows 10 taskbar in latest ExplorerPatcher using the updated symbols? Still on latest Windows 11, does right-clicking on the Windows 11 taskbar in latest ExplorerPatcher using the updated symbols not crash the explorer.exe in such a way that you can still manually start the explorer.exe again after?

No, I didn't try that. I connected with AnyDesk to test it, apparently neither Win+Tab nor Alt+Tab work remotely. I will have to test it locally next time I visit and tell you. Just tested Win+Tab in my own computer, it works. Win+Tab shows large images while Alt+Tab shows thumbnails.

Figuring that any new OS build could break EP and rarely delivers anything I really need, I don’t want to tempt fate more than I have to. With the July 11 build, 22621.1992, Win+Tab works fine.

How do you revert it? Downloaded the new exe, double-clicked, explorer restarted and taskbar icons now expand if they're active (ie. coretemp).

I don't suppose this has the ability to take Windows Explorer back the way it was in 10, does it? Or is it just for taskbar and start menu?
I find windows explorer in Win 11 (Specifically the left panel) overly complicated and busy, except for the tabs, it's about time with the tabs..

Winaero Tweaker has a File Explorer category with two different Navigation Pane tweaks, each one of which lets you change what items should or shouldn't appear in the navigation tree. Further, Open-Shell has an optional component called Classic Explorer. It lets you customize various other characteristics of File Explorer. (The first tab in the Settings window panel of Classic Explorer is named Navigation Pane.)
