For what it's worth millions have already said so. Complaints about Windows are a penny a dozen. This forum is a testimony to the fact that Windows has a lot of issues. So what. This is what I mean when I say Windows is a love/hate relationship. People bash windows on a regular basis but they still keep on using Windows. It isn't exactly a marriage made in heaven, eh?

I count myself among the chiefest of whiners and complainers and Windows bashers BUT... I still keep using Windows. My passion for Windows verges on the hypocritical, but at least I try to be honest about it. Call me a hypocrite. I will thank you for over stating the obvious. Windows has issues because it was made by people. People are flawed. People aren't perfect and neither is Windows.

I know some are offended when I describe Windows in this fashion but it is what it is. If human kind can relate to the wind and the earth and the sky it certainly is capable of relating to a device it constructs through its own ingenuity. Like it or not, we all relate to our PCs in some fashion or other. Therefore it follows that we have a 'relationship' with a PC when we use a PC. IF that sounds perverse one should consider what these words mean and I wish them the very best with re-writing English diction.

For those who insist that they have a perfect relationship with Windows, meaning that they have never had a problem or issue with Windows at all, and are very happy using Windows, I applaud them. If what they say is true then they have accomplished something tantamount to miraculous. For me, using Windows reminds me of that Shakespearean comedy, The Taming of the Shrew.

Windows is a love/hate relationship.
Nice words - do you write for a paper?

I agree with you, but always find it interesting that there are (I believe) more lines of code in a iPhone then any PC OS, yet how often does IOS make a mess of an update. Just saying;-)

If that’s even true, measuring lines of code is one of the most useless metrics in software development. Also, iOS doesn’t have the legacy of useless crap they have to support like Windows does. Windows would be a lot simpler if Microsoft could say, “hey, we’re not supporting your game [or whatever] from 1992 anymore.” They can’t, because customers would revolt. Apple gets to just drop support for things, customers complain on Reddit, then proceed to update all of their things. And no, I’m not dissing Apple; I use iDevices also.

Also, as Apple control the hardware AND software it's much simpler for them to develop for and push out updates. When you consider there are billions of hardware combinations in PC systems it's a wonder that Windows works as well as it does.

Nice words - do you write for a paper?

I agree with you, but always find it interesting that there are (I believe) more lines of code in a iPhone then any PC OS, yet how often does IOS make a mess of an update. Just saying;-)
Ha! Caught me red handed. I don't write for a newspaper but I am a writer. I won't promote my material here for ethical reasons. I suppose I do a bit of everything. I'm fascinated by the folks in this forum. They're brilliant and from all walks of life. They have so much to offer and I've learned a great deal from many here. For instance, I didn't know that an iPhone uses more lines of code than a regular PC. I don't have an iPhone or a smart phone and I've never owned a cell. I aim to keep it that way. I'm a bit eccentric in that regard, but there it is. I maintain a page for my little town because we don't have a newspaper anymore. All of it is a labour of love. It's good to stay useful no matter how old one is, or what health problems they may have. This is my way of keeping on keeping on.

I've been using Windows since.........98. I stand by my statement.
I'm not sure exactly what it is we're measuring here but okay, I'll show you mine. I started with Windows 2 back in the '80's.

I know that practically every computer sold in the past 30 years shipped with Windows. You can find "crap" anywhere if you look hard enough. Personally, I think they are a great company and produce (for the most part) great products. But you most certainly have a right to your opinions.

WOW, so much hate and discontent over something as simple and basic as a keyboard or a mouse.

Ever since "Mouse.com", used in DOS, every version of Windows has come with a more than adequate mouse driver, and no externally installed drivers are required. That goes along with my basic rule of Computing, "KISS = Keep it simple stupid!"

However, I do vaguely remember some kind of Mouse software, years ago, that caused all sorts of problems. I stopped using it then and I've never used any form of Mouse software since. As for Logitech WiFi mice, I get mine at Walmart for under $20.
They feel good and have a very smooth operation.
Likewise the keyboard. Microsoft's default Keyboard drivers are sufficient.
I'm currently using a Mechanical Keyboard like I've seen advertised on the internet for over $100. I got mine at a discount store for $7.95. I love the feel of the Mechanical Key switches. However, this keyboard did not come with any special drivers. It didn't need them.
The label on the keyboard tells me it's a model K101. And,,, "Made in China". Go Figure!

For the first time in my life, I like a keyboard so much, I went back to the store and bought four more.
A plus is, that each keyboard come with a little package of spare key switches. Sure they have to be soldered in, but it's still quite a Plus.
While working on BIG Computer keyboards, years ago, I've soldered in hundreds of replacement key switches. That's better than having to replace a whole keyboard just because one key switch failed.

Cheers Mates,
TM

If they produce so much crap as you say, then why aren't you using a Mac or Linux distro?
Me? Oh, I like the core code of Windows just fine, (any version), but, it's all the bloatware and CRAP that they add on to it that just bugs the heck out of me. That's why I don't get my Windows from MS. I gave that up a long time ago.

The version of Windows 11/Pro/64 that I'm on right now, came with Zero Bloatware and Zero Crapola. It runs fast and smooth, without ever a freeze or BSOD. And, I've totally disabled MS Updates, so they can't futz with it.

I totally feel sorry for those MS fanboys (and girls) that will be back on the forums, time after time, complaining about how some update screwed up something on their PC. How can you just enjoy your PC, when you're constantly dealing with problems???

Give me a brand new PC, with Windows 11 on it, and in a heartbeat I'll wipe it, and install my own Clean version of Windows.

Sorry about that! I just don't like computer problems, after spending 40+ years fixing them.

Cheers Mates,
TechnoMage
