Hi, I want to continue using OneDrive to sync and backup my files, but I do not want the green checkmark showing on my icons at all. How can i remove this?

The different onedrive symbols indicate the status of the onedrive file.
When you open an online-only file, it downloads to your device and becomes a locally available file indicated by the green check. You can open a locally available file anytime, even without Internet access. You can change the file back to online only which will change it's icon to a white cloud outlined in blue. Just right-click the file and select "Free up space."

Files that you mark as "Always keep on this device" have the green circle with the white check mark.

Yes I know this but I don't need it as I have the Cloud symbol in taskbar which tells me if my OneDrive files are synced.

You can hide sync status icons in the navigation pane thru folder options but AFIK , there isn’t a way to globally disable sync status icons in File Explorer if you use OneDrive. The overlays are part of how OneDrive communicates file availability to/from your PC..

can you screenshot a sample of what you're referring to?

close onedrive (exit it completely)

use sysinternals autoruns

look for SkyDrive or Onedrive 1, 2, 3 in
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ShellIconOverlayIdentifiers

uncheck all 3 of those ^

relaunch onedrive

terminate onedrive process completely (make sure its not running in background either).

use this .dll i modified

in %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\OneDrive\YOUR_VERSION_NUMBER\

rename FileSyncShell64.dll to FileSyncShell64.dll.backup

Place the one i provided into that folder

restart pc and the White Circle with Green Checkmark should not show on anything.

*that is the only icon i replaced in that dll. if you want to remove more, let me know*

*you may want to save a copy of this modified dll in case a onedrive update brings that icon back*
