I have two phones with unlimited data/text/voice for US/Canada/Mexico, the total price with tax & fees is $70/mo. I don't use that much data, but it's the best plan I can find for the price. At home I have gigabit fiber with WiFi-6 covering the house, so I don't really use the data here.
Your need really depends on where you live, where you go, and how you use your phone.
In any case, I fail to see any mention of what the supposed SCAM is. If you're really talking about companies selling you something you don't really need, why aren't you really railing against pharmaceutical companies, talk about SCAMs!
