When I first started using Windows 10, I decided I would learn to use windows settings and forget about the control panel unless it was absolutely necessary.

By putting the Settings shortcut on my Taskbar, I can go straight to System where things are grouped together by type.

I don't really have any complaints about "settings", I just wish they would finish the job before sidling us with it.
With Win 10 and even more with Win 11, I feel like a lab rat with no retirement plan.

MS gives new meaning to the term... half baked.

I think they have to be cautious because what might seem like a minor change can wreak havoc with what's left.

You're 100% right.
But that still doesn't excuse MS for dropping a half baked OS on the consumer.

Can you imagine what a college math professor would say if someone handed in a half done test, and said... don't worry I'll get it finished soon.

We need to get back to the old... "We will serve no wine, until it's time", methodology.

Agreed..., they're testing the waters!
They have a plan, they're just sloppy and apprehensive executing that plan!

Also, I have a suspicion Microsoft isn't run as efficiently as it used to be.

No, I can't, but when I was in university I handed in my boolean algebra exam having done only the first one out of four questions so the other three I had left completely blank. So, underneath my first page were three blank pages all three of which remained hidden from view when I tossed my pages onto the pile that was on his desk. There was no talking so, I just handed in my pages like that and then I walked outside. Right at the start of the second semester, in front of an auditorium that had almost 70 maths/IT/physics students attending his next class, the professor began by telling his audience that I was the only student who had given the correct, full answer to that specific question, but he immediately added that I had skipped the other three. He went on to explain that, during his whole career at the university as a maths professor, he had never encountered something like that before, so then he asked me why. To which I replied that I had only studied the first chapter in the curriculum. Again, he asked why. I can't remember what my explanation was, but the only true explanation was that I got bored to bits trying to study the second chapter so of course I never told him that. Next, he started teaching his class, and, he spoke to me again right after his class was over, in private this time around, outside at the bicycle stand expressing the fact that he found it rather extraordinary that I was capable to understand the first chapter. An important part of which was about the empty set and about infinity. Both of which are quite hard. But anyway, I still dropped out of university soon after.

I am a creative thinker whose thought processes tend to happen at an above average speed and whose learning skills are too incompatible with how the education system works, as being a fast thinker often also means getting bored a lot faster than the average student typically does, other times it means getting over exhausted from things like not knowing how to maintain the proper balance between spending more energy faster and charging back up. But thinking ahead of most other people and taking fewer steps to arrive at logical conclusions in various situations under various circumstances allows me to see things that most other people can't. That is, things that look trivial to me don't always look trivial to others, and this happens to me pretty much all the time. I also know that such convictions of mine aren't always correct. But, in the vast majority of cases, they still pan out to be. The downside of that is when I see obstacles and I try to warn people about them, I very often am greeted with major disbelief or worse, I get treated like I have a systemic holier-than-thou attitude problem. Because, nobody needs a second king. Next thing you know, the ship hits the iceberg, exactly how I predicted would happen, and the ship breaks in half. Mathematically speaking, building only half of a ship is what effectively solves the problem because if you do that, it will never leave the port, where there can be no icebergs. But like I said, I got bored so only solved half the problem─by handing in 1/4 of a ship.

Hi there

It's Windows --- but these later builds do seem more stable and better performers than earlier ones. For performance though you can't beat running Windows 22 server which while mainly W10 based has some features from W 11 in it. (hobbled to use as as a desktop OS). I still prefer the Lunar black theme of Windows XP to the current W11 basic theme and things like file explorer are looking distinctly old fashioned and dated. Also the file explorer GUI and most other file explorer systems that have a GUI are still using the old Windows SDK limiting directory, path and file length to 266 chars after whic you will see a meaningless ms dos 8.3 file name.It's about time that was fixed.

I find though for Non Windows VM's HYPER-V rather poor at being able to pass thru real hardware to the VM and using RDC as the main way of communicating between VM and Host not very good.

As for WSL I initially thought that would be a useful feature -- but on modern hardware and processors it's so much easier to use a proper VM so I don't use it at all any more.

Yeah - when run by 13 year olds like Amanda and Burton (who followed on the Dona dumb down legacy), it is hardly surprising.

I would not consider 10 great it was just better than 8-8.1 which is no real prize
Vista was better still not great though.

11 is just a continuous pita for no good reason just because linux pretty much sux lol

i have test startallback, works perfect, but i dont use it,
because I want win11 the way it really is, of course the neutered taskbar bothers me, but you got used to it, installed Win11 about 1 year ago, there were still huge problems and it was still English-German mixed until slowly the German language packs came as an update. Now I currently have several Win11 22H2 22622.754 and I like it quite well.

A few months later, I was told that management had made a strategic decision to go for Enterprise Java as opposed to Microsoft .NET, and, although at that time I couldn't quite understand why they did, eventually I found out. In 2006, I took extensive training to become a J2EE software developer. This was at a training center, for six months and full time. They were using Windows XP SP2 back then (and so was I, at home on my own custom-built PC that had an Intel Pentium IV 3.4GHz iside, on an Asus mobo with 2GB of Corsair RAM and this one ).

About 2 weeks ago I installed XP on my oldie Sony VAIO, from 2005, very cute system and actually runs quite well. Of course not banking, PayPal and so on, but nice to keep an oldie laptop alive, but it also runs quite well with Win7.

I agree, it's the inconsistency... A panel troll with a blue tooth looks totally different from a jack-in-the-box mouse doubleclick speed tester.

I inherited that same Vaio from my deceased sibling. That laptop is wonderful for typing on. I haven't installed Windows 7 on it. Hmm.

It is interesting to read all those emotions in this thread about their new Windows that did not fulfil their expectations yet.

That is good, that means Windows lives in your heart.

Which could be very interesting for the Microsoft developers who tried hard to make Windows 11 the Windows you expect.
