Poll: Windows 11 - Love it or Hate It?

There are no compelling reasons to upgrade to W11 (at this time) other than curiosity. I did the upgrade but made a System Image Backup of W10 before doing so. After I explored W11's features and saw how badly the Taskbar fell short of my expectations; I booted my computer to my W10 Thumb Drive, logged in and used the W10 System Image to put everything back just the way it was before the upgrade to W11.

Having done a lot of tweaking with W11 I downloaded a free backup program and made a System Image of W11 onto another internal storage drive. When I feel like playing with W11 again I will simply make a new backup of W10 then use the boot media I created with the free backup software to recover W11. NOTE: I am not ready to setup a dual boot system. W11 needs to mature a little over the next six months before I would use it as my main OS.

Whew! That was much wordier than I intended!

I'm curious too but I'm still enjoying my new PC which is running Windows 10 beautifully. Even though I take regular Macrium image backups I think I'd rather wait until W11 has something I want other than "shiny new toy" appeal. I did the free Windows 7 -> Windows 10 upgrade as soon as it became available and I regretted it.

Only reason I'm on Windows 11 is because of promised Android support.

When people ask me if they should upgrade from 10 to 11. I always answer: "If your current system does what you need it to do, then don't. If you ABSOLUTELY MUST have rounded window corners then yes."

...because that is pretty much the only difference most users will currently see.

You can add email app to taskbar. I don't know if this useful for you.

You can add people app to taskbar too.

I agree with the above statement by @SlicEnDicE - if your current system works well, there is no need to upgrade. Personally, I have Windows 11 installed on a separate SSD and I'm booting it up every now and then out of curiosity. However, I work on Windows 10.

Now, just to give you a perspective, I am working on Windows 10 since January this year when I built my current machine. My previous build (dated 2012) was working on Windows 7. Comparing the two in the day-to-day operation, I can't say that Windows 10 is "better" than Windows 7. I never "upgraded" the old machine and I am certain I was right. The new machine obviously has new hardware and that required Windows 10 (I'm not one of those people searching the internet for possible solutions for installing XP on modern hardware), which is why I use it now. Yes, the new hardware is faster (somewhat), but I certainly did not see any jump in productivity and whatever differences there are, I can't attribute them to the OS. In terms of managing the system, Windows 10 is cumbersome and inconsistent, certainly not an improvement over Windows 7.

Windows 11, apart from visuals, does not improve much in terms of system management, while making customization even more difficult. The new Start Menu is a disaster and the new Taskbar is not an improvement. As to being faster, I can't attest to that, since I've not done any real work there. Perhaps I will at some point, but there is definitely no need to rush.

Games are slightly faster on latest AMD hardware on Windows 11 compared to Windows 10, after MS released the patch that fixes the AMD L3 cache bug. And even then it is only about 5% increase, so you will only notice it if you compare them side by side. There were certain scenarios that were HUGELY faster on AMD systems running Win11 vs Win10. Can't remember what it was though...

I hate the task bar. I have multiple pages open but I can't look down and go to them. I know have to click to see what's where - THEN go to locations and click that. Also, anyone know how to expand the taskbar for two rows of icons? I'm a publisher using multiple web sources and need the space.

Well,, there's still Win10 and it's going to continue to be supported until Oct 2025.

Well, I'll have to admit the inability to drag and drop icons to the taskbar is a huge bummer; especially where custom built icons are concerned. Hoping they get that fixed.

That said, no plans to dump 11.

That is a bit of a pain but not a deal breaker.

That said, the lack of drag and drop on the taskbar issue is a huge annoyance. Also, not a fan of the "Show more options" nonsense when right clicking. That just adds another unnecessary click to get to the other half of the Context menu.

I like Windows 11, have no plans of going back to Windows 1o. Nor do I have any plans on tweaking 11 to act and behave like Windows 10 or 7, but I gotta say some of the design decisions are baffling and annoying.

Like you, my biggest single gripe is the removal of drag and drop to the Taskbar. An extra click for some actions I can cope with (reluctantly) and some actions, like cut/copy and paste in File explorer can now easily be done with single clicks, so its not all bad news. I'll be keeping 11, if only for the vastly improved layout of the Settings app.

Mine is also to do with the taskbar, in this case the lack of toolbars. I use Free Launch bar to categorize applications, makes finding and launching applications very quick.

I have to say I like it. I don't use many of the features though. I never even do split screens and don't use chat programs or do video chats. I don't need the widgets either. The new Start menu is fine and I like the centered position now that I've gotten used to it. I don't miss those annoying live tiles at all. The taskbar changes don't bother me because I never used any of the things they took out anyway. The only thing that bothers me at all is the right click context menu but I can live with it. Yes, I know it can be reverted with a registry hack but I haven't done it.

I would have to say that Windows 10 was an improvement over 7 and 11, while not much different now, will wind up improving on 10 by a good bit. I'm a gamer and web browser and not interested in productivity. That's boring lol.

You can add people app to taskbar too.

Just about any app in the Start Menu can be pinned to the Taskbar by right clicking and clicking pin to taskbar. So if the app is in Start, its most likely pinable (my word) so that helps. Just no drag and drop.

The drag and drop functionality I miss is not pinning apps to the taskbar, it's the ability in W10 and earlier to drag files from File Manager to the icon of a running app on the taskbar, which then comes to the front so you can drop the files into it to open them. That was a significant aid to productivity.

I hadn't noticed that, but I don't use that feature. But as I said we're discovering lots of "annoying changes"
