Yeah, it would be a very rare thing!
I had it once, during a power outage, where my design team sent me stuff, very 11th hour-ish, over my phone, transferred it to my Laptop and worked on it til the battery went dead!

No Internet is needed for many things I do. I can spend hours with Photoshop, Lightroom and my photography with no Internet required. I do spend a lot of time analyzing trades and chart trends with nothing more needed than my trading data. I still spend a good bit of my time working with Microsoft Visual Studio and software development. No Internet required.

I live in a rural area where the Internet often goes down for hours and even days at a time. I still have plenty to do with my computers.

And if the Internet is down and I really need to connect, I just set up a Hotspot to the local Cell Tower on my phone and connect my computers to that.

I'm not a fan of MS but mysql is faster in Windows than in Ubuntu. And of course I am a casual player. The centered task bar was never a matter of concern nor the lack of moving folders in the RTM version 22000.160. So I accept all the features. I like to be an early adopter. Even Windows 8 I accepted it with all its flaws. It was very stable

@MiguelAngel11 Agreed! I bought a computer with Windows 8 on it and had no problems. I use a computer to run my applications and my browser and if a Windows OS does that reliably, I'm good to go.

a dialog will pop up: You need to sign in with your Microsoft Account, of course,
then, another dialog will pop up: We need your Credit Card number for a year; your subscription will auto-renew; cancel at any time.

After all that, with the only OS at your disposal, who the feck is gonna cancel at any time!?!?!? 🤷‍♂️

I have a reasonable suspicion, if any of this comes remotely to fruition, it's gonna make many users very apprehensive!

I’ll say it again, it’s a harmless “what if? I’ve been reading the comments. Yes, Microsoft has done their best over the last couple of days to explain that the subscription is a non-issue. But since when has a company been able to be trusted on their word or promises? Labelling people as alarmists isn’t fair considering that It is the way things go with everything these days. “Keep them calm and hit them later.!” It doesn’t matter if it is politics or policies, this is the new trend of dealing with the masses. Then there is the “creeping in” approach, anything worth using could end up being an add-on subscription.

Personally, I can see a free core base of windows, I can see that possibly in the future, there will be a core-base of Windows and if you don’t pay a subscription for various add-ons you will end up with something that in comparison to a subscription based OS, will be rather lacking in functionality.

I am finding peoples choices and reasons for switching to particular operating systems very interesting. So to me, the poll isn’t a total loss.
If I were able to change some of the poll I would, but I can not. Even if I could, how many options would it take? By the looks of this thread, too many, and I wouldn’t know where to start?

I would change the question into:
"Is Windows worth to pay a subscription for?"

Obviously not... Windows stopped being something worthy after they went Windows 10 road, with forced updates, all the crippled updates, lazy support and using the users like beta testers.
You are not worth anymore, Microsoft, you are in the end of the line...

Every company knows damn well that they can make a heck of a lot more money, a lot faster, and for a longer period of time selling perpetual subscriptions online..., not to mention, people seem 100 times more willing to part with their money from the comfort of their computer chair, rather than going to an actual store!

consumer users are the feature beta testers for the corporate customers. Microsoft even said as much. They do not listen to our feedback, only bug reports and telemetry,
