When we selected several folders in Explorer, in Windows 7, it selected by the size of the folder name, in windows 10 and 11, it selects by the largest name, and so all selected are the same size, there is a way to select the folders like in Windows 7.

No.

I have two identical SSDs. They both had my most up to date Windows 10 on them.
Early in the AM, I did an IN-Place Upgrade to Windows 11 on one of them.
Then I did all the Win 11 tweaks and updates, then made a 2nd backup.

Then all I had to do was turn the comp off and switch the cables back to the Windows 10 SSD.

This way, I can mess around with Win 11 when I want, but I don't have to move in with it... yet.

I too have cloned one of my machine's disks to try the upgrade to Win11 on a real machine. Unfortunately the only suitable machine is a Legacy/MBR one, so I used the 'mixed' install media workaround to do that. To keep apps and files I had to image the install and restore to a fully compliant UEFI VM so that I could then do the repair there, Then I saved the image and restored just the C: partition back to the physical Legacy/MBR machine.

What I have found is that a Win11 install with any of the currently available ISOs will benefit to the tune of about 2GB with an application of DISM's /StartComponentCleanup option.

In addition, for those who like to clean deeper and delete the folders found in the LCU folder, Win11 has increased the protections in place. In Win10 you just needed to click 'Yes' when asked if you wanted to use your admin rights. In Win11 you first have to take ownership and grant Administrators full control before you can delete them.

However, comparing the thoroughly cleaned up 22000.65 physical machine with the original Win10 drive it was cloned from (with all the same software still installed) I find the Windows 11 C: System drive to be significantly smaller than the Windows 10 one.

One SSD would have 10 upgraded to 11 on it. The other SSD would have the same Win 10... just not upgraded.

The license is normally attached to the hardware. As long as you boot up those 2 OSes on the same machine, it is okay. If you boot it up on another machine you will have to re-activate Windows via digital license. Booting up between different machines too often with the same license will get your digital license locked due to too many activation attempts. But it can be unlocked via text message. You will be prompted for it when you try to re-activate again.

But if you want to try to run Windows Insider on a different machine, I think the generic key still works.

I'm curious if you have actually seen this happen with Windows 10 or 11, or if it is theory?

I'm running Bitdefender Internet Security.... it takes over Windows Security, and Defender as well.
They work toghether, but you never hear from Windows Security or Defender ever again.

Cleaning the "store" got rid of 2GB of C: drive data. Down from 39.3 GB to 37.2 GB.

What's the name of that program for seeing what's taking up the space on my C: drive? WizTree or something?

They both had the exact same Win 10 install, OI just did an In-Place upgrade to Win 11 on one of them.
